 Chunkeh verm? Cons or Pros?

Hello all, A relatively stupid question from yours truly.
Anyways, I just found 2 jars of mine that I had forgotten about for 3+ months and when I found them, I said what the heck and began fruiting them. It was slow going and I wondered why? I remembered though I hadn't dunked them and put a coat of verm on them. I still got my flushes, but I had went and bought some verm, figured I might as well coat them now.
Anyways, main question of mine is. This verm I bought is really chunky, like REALLY chunky, some pieces reaching around the width of a cigarette butt or large sunflower seeds in shape. I threw it in a grinder though, evened things out a tiny bit, but still its fairly big.
Are there any cons to large pieces of vermiculite? I don't want to be using it if its bad for my cakes.

Yarr I said I did put it in a grinder " Aka my sterilized food processer" but its just a dirty job you know, the chunks float to the top while the rest gets pulverized into dust.

What I would like to know is, how didn't the jars begin to fruit invitro? Especially after 3 months?
