rehydrating prints for agar?
    #10672204 - 07/13/09 10:00 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

So i'm looking into agar and slightly confused from a statment about re hydrating a print before using an inoculation loop to noc up the agar. how do you rehydrate a print. i understand allowing spores to rehydrate in a syringe, but if it as simple as adding water to a print that seems like a horrible idea.

searching, all i could find was info on how long rehydration and such takes with syringes.

so if rehydration is necessary for a print when using a loop how do I go about that?

You should be able to simple scrape the spores onto the agar. No problem.

If the spores do really need to be rehydrated then just make a syringe from the print and wait a day or so to place a few drops onto a few petri's.  If all of the drops come up with clean germination points then you can use the syringe to inoculate some jars if you wish.

What makes you think you will need to rehydrate the spores? Have you already tried streaking the agar with no result?
