organic? does it matter?

I used just plain brow rice and chopped it up in a blender into a fine powder. I think this is the reason why I am only growing 1 to 2 inch shrooms. Is it because im only using plain brown rice instead or organic brown rice? My humidity is at 95 percent and the temp is at around 72 always. So im just trying to figure out what it is?

There's no difference between regular brown rice and organic brown rice, other than organic is less likely to be treated with a fungicide. I've used both and see no real difference. You're gonna get smaller shrooms from cakes, regardless.

Organic just means that it was grown with any fertilizers or other chemicals. Just cause you're making your own flour shouldn't effect your growing height. I think and I may be wrong, but your light/dark ratio may effecting it. If you really want to be sure, try using a different substrate, like grain. Or you could try to find some Organic brf.

Well If i give it 3 hours of fluresent lighting a day, how could it be a lighting problem? if orgamic dosent matter, what could i be doing wrong? everything is perfect.

What kind of shrooms are you growing? Some types do better on BRF than others.
Puerto Rican IMO do not do so well. PES Hawiian and Equador's do outstanding, agian IMO.
Maybe its just the breed?

there are so many studies on lighting, its starting to seem that lighting doesn't matter anymore.

I use plain brown rice myself, and have no probs with it.  In fact I even blended some basmati and got PR's to grow on it :laugh:  What strain are you growing?  Maybe you could nudge that temp up to the high 70's.

Oraganic matter if only that you grew your babys on the best of the good stuff and that will just make em happier in the long run. Besides, organic farming needs the support damn it.

I used candian coast and cambodian. Is this the reason why they are so small? I swear everything else I did right.

Both should do fine. I can personaly vouch for the cambo's and as for the acadian's I never tried them but from the looks of THIS they would appear to do fine as well.
I agree with "cookd" bump the temp to about 78. One other thought. Even if your rh is good, if the cake dried during incubation, ....maybe?? That could contribute to stunted growth. Pick them up. If they feel solid and heavy thats good. If they feel like cork they probably just need rehydrated. Just a thought.
