Why even risk trying to save the perlite? I saw it at OSH today priced at $13.79 for 3.5cuft.

Well, that's kind of what I thought too. You'll have to forgive me because I don't make a lot of posts these days. I didn't find my answer so I thought I'd ask. It could be awhile untill I have another sgfc and I was just curious if I cleaned it out correctly and watched over time to make sure that nothing else grew, is it possible to use the same pearlite?? I think it is and I probably will. But it could be months down the road and it should end up as dry as the new pearlite that I put in it to start with. I gotta be honest. It's not that I want to save the pearlite so much as I dont know how to get rid of it. Like everyone else here, I'm kind of new and just want to know if anyone else has gone through this particular curve?

I don't think anyones going to think too much of you throwing away perlite. If anyone asks, just say you were changing the pebbles in your fish aquarium. It's not like the average person would go "Wow, thats perlite, I wonder what he was using that for". To the average person it would just look like a bunch of white rocks.
and actually, if anyone asks, it's not really much of their business anyways is it? hah.

Yeah, it's no worries about that man. I may have not asked the question correctly.

Boil it, bake it, or PC it.
Or just dump it in the compost pile. It's a soil additive anyway, that's what it is for.

what i do is use a 50/50 bleach water solution in a spray bottle. i toss the fc perlite and all into the bath tub the pump about 20 sprays of the bleach water solution onto the perlite and use my hand to mix it up a bit. after that i turn the shower head on and rinse the perlite for a minute or so to get the perlite as clean as i can and to rehydrate it. this works for me. helps with the mildewy smell as well.
