Well if you want a guess I have one.

If those 2nd and 3rd pics are indeed trichs, they should be real deal pachanois. Looks like seedgrown pachanois for me. But thats a guess, like Doc said, only in a few years you'll be able to tell.

Not random, but Trichocereus (and cacti in general) have some of the biggest problems in botany with regards to taxonomy. The amount of variation displayed, the fact nobody can agree, the constant changes... Its a damned volatile field. Not to mention OP's specimen is young, which always complicates things unless its a common plant.

Botanists probably do more reading and memorization than many doctors or lawyers. The books on taxonomy of cacti alone are... intimidating.

DNA FTW, but its simply not practical in some settings. Also keep in mind that often times, two people whom have both studied the same genus or two of plants STILL end up disagreeing on the classification. The confusion is not limited to only novices.

Well, the larger, skinnier one is a seed grown bridgesii of my own and I trust the vendor, it's just the other one I'm wondering about. But I'm a patient guy so I'll wait until it grows up a bit to ID, hopefully it'll be some cool.
