Fantastic Four
    #1065381 -

Need sharing and approval.

Yesterday I got home from work and took a look at my 4 little babies, which seemed to have been 100% colonized for a couple of days now but not exactly a week. To My surprise, one of my jar was showing primordia and the other 3 were starting to colonize the dry verm barrier on top. I decided it was time for them to go in the terrarium. Should I wait for a couple of days and if nothing happens dunk them? Also I posted yesterday regarding the hours of light needed in the terrarium and it seems no one can give me a straigth answer as to what is the best light/darkness timing to use, could someone help me out? I can't wait to get one of those smurf's house in my stomach.

They sound ready to birth deffinatelly.
as far as light goes for the first few days I`d suggest 6hrs or so to be sufficient to initiate fruiting.
After mushrooms begin to form, you can drop the light to as little as 1 hr or even less if necessary.

I've tended to keep my cakes and casing sitting out on my warm kitchen during the day meaning they get many hours of indirect light, but a recent thread showed that shrooms seem to grow faster with less light, so I might start warming up my cupboards!

That's the best answer I got yet, Muchos Gracias Derrayld. Quick question also. There is one of my cake that has a blueish spot on it, I know I shouln't worry about it because it as probably been bruised since I manipulated my jars alot but should I keep an eye on it? Is there more chance for contam to get a foot hold on that specific spot?

No bruising is just a sign of oxidation.
Contamination will set in anywhere it can get a foot-hold.
Don`t worry, but for safety reasons keep an eye on the spot.
Are you planning on casing or fruiting them as cakes??
I would suggest casing them or spawning them to a bulk substrate of dung/straw.
In my opinion bulk substrates are just as easy as casing except naturally for the extra steps.
Good Luck

do you have no way of organising some coir or verm??
I can tell you now if you work properly casings will be easier than cakes.

Like a mixture of soil and verm? I have no idea what coir is, it's like dog food or something?

same amount of room.
Just get some coir and verm, mix them 50/50 and hydrate the mixture so it is moist but not dripping.
Break up your cakes into marble sized pieces, lay them down evenly in a casing tray and cover with an 1" or so of the mixture.

Coir is coconut or palm husks, broken up and compacted into a brick.
just add water to hydrate it.
If you can`t find that try finding sphagnum moss or even Jiffy Mix if you are in the US.
