heavy pinning under cake 2nd flush

I dunked my brf cake about 7 days ago and my second flush is coming through now. i have about 10-12 large pins coming out on the sides and 1 on top. I picked up my cake to look at it and underneath it there are like 30-40 tiny pins poking through. Why did they all grow on the bottom? and should I flip the cake? If i flip it all the bigger pins are going to be pointing toward the ground. Thanks. Im using a 100w daylight fluorescent.

water is settling to the bottom of the cake, thus holding moisture better. perfectly normal. You say you dunked the cake, but did not say anything about rolling in dry verm after the dunk. Is this the case? It may help if you pile a small bit of dry verm on the top of the cake, let it sit for an hour or so, then mist it. this will help as a water resevoir on the top of the cake. You can lay a cake on its side, no harm done.
edit: just realized you're on second flush. don't re-roll in verm.

You may want to fruit the second flush upside down!

Word. I've had this happen before and if you can find a way to set the cake so that all of those bottom pins are exposed without damaging the other bigger pins, then do it! Those bottom pins will likely continue to grow out and mature if they are still young and viable and haven't aborted yet.

Thank god for this post! The same thing was happening to me! It looked like my cake was starting to lean over and so I took a look and was pleasantly surprised to see a ton of pins poking through!! I set my cake on its side as suggested above!

It pinned on the bottom because that's where the conditions were best for the pins, flip it over and the pins may not like the conditions and you might get some aborts. I would let it do it's thing and not bother flipping it over. It probably has to do with your SGFC being made not quite to spec hence them preferring to pin on the micro-climate under your cake, if you're using foil under your cake make sure it conforms to your cake.

Okay so I decided to leave the cakes how they are since a few pins have already found their way out the sides. But what if some of them abort and start to rot? I'm just worried since I can't see what the hell is going on under there. I don't wanna touch my cakes to look. Any suggestions??

pick one up, it should feel like your holding a cup of water, if it feel light dunk it or if your worried about your pins pile some moist verm on top of the cakes and or sit them in a saucer of water over night
