Sclerotia - late harvests

So i have been looking more and more into growing sclerotia, but I'm not sure about how long you can leave them invitro without rotting.
Here is my question. say, hypothetically, someone were to be leaving their home for 10 months, unable to come back home and tend the fungus. If they were to inoculate some jars full of sclerotia before leaving, and leave the jars there to colonize and form sclerotia, would they go rotten before harvest 10 months later?
Also, what strain might be best known to stay well for long periods of time Invitro (Atl#7 [psilocybe galindoi], Psilocybe Mexicana [jalisco, a, b], or psilocybe tampanesis)

Depending on temps, and the size of the jars- it might work. Try several of those species at once, if possible.

I would intentionally only punch like one small hole for gas exchange in my lids if I knew I would be leaving for that long. That may slow down enough of the moisture loss and at the same time slow colonization down to give you some time to get to them and harvest before they go sour.
On the other hand it may stall them and they may never grow but I would imagine it would work.
Just an idea. Any input?

yeah but thats $83.50 at sporeworks
i could buy a quarter oz for less than that.
then again for just one syringe its $36.50 - steep either way.
somebody here must have some experience with different strains. the ATL#7 says it forms large sclerotia, would that be a good choice for long-term?

I beleive they have a special called "Exotic Psilocybe Grab Bag". It is 75$ for your choice of FOUR exotic psilocybe syringes which would include the sclerotia producing species.
So you could get one of each of the sclerotia producing strains + another strain such as Ps. azurescens or Ps. Cyan to start an outdoor bed which would'nt require maintenance while you're gone either. Would beat paying 85$ for only three syringes.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

its 75, plus 8.50 shipping
83.5 for 4 syringes
also, i'm assuming just like cubes, i should expect 10-12 half-pint jars per 10CC's spore solution?
i really dont know if i'm going to do this yet, just because of the price.
i'd have to buy a bunch of jars too.

Wait until you get back. Don't try to leave them for ten months, because they'll get rancid. If you decide to do it anyway, punch extra holes in the lids. That way the grains will dry out along with the sclerotia. That's your best bet against them going sour on you, but I'd wait. RR
