To those who have flashbacks-when did you first notice them?
    #10642972 - 07/08/09 04:45 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I realized today I have been having them for a while. I was staring at a pile of clothes on the bathroom floor, and they were just shifting around, hallucination style. I was kind of spaced out, and then I realized what I was seeing. I blinked, and it was gone.

At that point I realized it didn't freak me out at all, because it's been going on for a while. I think after one time I tripped, it just never completely stopped.

I've been looking for the phenomenon all day, now that I'm conscious of it. If I just space out and stare at something, sometimes (not always, or even often) it will shift and move around. Especially patterns. If I stare at something hard, it doesn't happen. Only when I'm not paying attention to what I'm looking at. It hasn't happened again today, but now that I think of it I realize that the ugly wallpaper in our bedroom shifts quite often when I'm lying in bed thinking. And other things happen, as well. I've just accepted it as reality.

I'm not drunk or high, BTW.

Are these actual flashbacks? I can't imagine what else they could be. They are definitely trip-like visual disturbances. They aren't as invasive as full on visuals-they don't happen when I'm paying attention; only when I slip into an alpha like state (on the toilet, or driving for instance) and I can stop them immediately.

The weirdest part is I've been experiencing it for several months and didn't consciously make a note of it until today. I guess I've just accepted the fact, from tripping, that sometimes things shift and move when they're not supposed to, and it's not anything to be alarmed about.

I think it's kind of neat, really. I guess it's to be expected-I slip into trip like thought patterns a lot more now than I ever did before. It may become annoying, eventually.

So-to those who experience flashbacks-is that what this sounds like? And was your experience similar, to begin with?

Will they go away if I don't trip for a while, or is this just something I'll integrate into my existence, like other mentalities and perspectives I've gained from tripping?

funny you should ask. a friend of mine once ate mushrooms and he said like 2 days after on his way to school he saw the black top shift and  he really freaked out. it only happened that one time though. i've  never eaten mushrooms so i couldn/t help you out more.

This is normal for a tripper. Most call it "HPPD."

I have slight morphing all the time when I stare at stuff.

HPPD is much, much, much worse than slight morphing when staring at stuff. If you really want to know how severe true HPPD is, theres a website for HPPD sufferers, check it out. It gets so bad, to the point where you are blinded by the sun reflecting off every surface. Waking up from night horrors, blinded by red vein-like obstructions in your sight. It gets really bad, a slight perma-morphing isn't shit compared to full-blown HPPD.

Yeah, I was leery of calling it HPPD, as in a severe disorder, because it is really not unpleasant, and it only happens when I'm in (I suppose) an Alpha state.

I really DO think that it is caused by tripping, but I almost don't think it's the same as the flashbacks that I've heard of. At least not as I understood. It almost seems like...well, I knew that frequent, high dose tripping was permanently altering my perceptions. That's a huge part of why I do it-in the hope that I will learn something, take something with me.

I want to be able to see the aspects of the world around me that most of us are blind to. If this is a continuation of that-I welcome it.

However, I don't want to end up with a horrible mental disorder, that makes me miserable. I'm not really afraid of that happening all that much, though. I like intense, mind-fucked tripping, and I'm not afraid of the things I experience and beings I meet on my journeys. Even the less benevolent ones have something to teach.

I was just curious about others' experience with this phenomenon; This is a new aspect of "the psychedelic experience" for me, and I'm sort of excited to see how it will pan out. I feel that maybe...maybe I'm moving to a threshold of learning from these miraculous substances. I'm thankful to them for sharing so much with me...I hope that's what it is, and not actual HPPD. Because I don't see myself laying off the psychs anytime soon.

I just don't want to be like the folks on the top of the building in Independence Day (remember, will smith?), holding up "welcome" signs only to realize-too late-that I'm about to be blasted to smithereens.

I hope you don't believe that psychedelics want you to see things morph and all that... I don't see how that sober would benefit anyone. It pisses me off.

I've noticed the same thing. If I'm just sitting around, things can morph and patterns form. I can "turn it off" just by looking at something else, it's kinda cool. I can see patterns and morphing just like on shrooms, and it seems to happen more severely when I listen to music.

It makes me chuckle and remember all my psychedelic experiences. :sun:

Well, I don't think that psychedelics actually have their own consciousness.

I just wonder if it's a sign that my perceptional horizons are...widening.

It doesn't piss me off any more than it does when I'm tripping. It's not like it's invasive, or seems real. It's not scary.
