Fast, easy, fool proof inoculation 6

This is how I have inoculated my jars for years. I have never run into any contam problems unless it was a bad source(Syringe, print, LC). I do this in open air, and it takes me about a minute to do a set of 12 jars.
Here are the materials needed. I am sure you can make everything out, the little orange square is a piece of sponge that I cut.
To start with, drop your piece of sponge into a container of alcohol.
For the next step, simply flame your needle, and insert it into the sponge.
Finally, push through your inoculation point, squirt however many cc's you wish to use, and pull the needle back out.
I hate the time it use to take me inoculating jars. I do this in open air right on my kitchen table. No need to mess with the tight quarters of a glove box, or building a flow hood. This process goes very quickly if you have a self healing lid. If you do not, then I use to just cover up the inoculation hole with a small band-aid. Instead of pulling the sponge off the top of the lid, along with the needle, just pull the needle out of the sponge, leaving the sponge to cover the whole while you reach for your band-aid or whatever you use.

I posted it years ago as well, but never included pictures or nothing. Figured I'd make a post with one.

Sorry to mess up the quote, I changed what I said, but anyway I like the method for how simple it is, but I found it too risky if one didn't have self healing ports. It ended up having problems even though there was only a split moment of being exposed.

The RTV silicone yes. Can check the link in my signature for how I make my lids as well.

I have done a lot of jars before I used the silicone port. Rather then keeping the needle inside the sponge, I would hold the sponge on top of the lid, get the band-aid, then move and place it on. There was maybe a 1/2 second that went by that the 'hole' was exposed. Never ran into issues.

Maybe my house just sucks, never had good luck with open air outside the first pf attempt which went fine, everything open outside a glovebox always gets too iffy, although the method is pretty sound.

That sucks!
Why not make some self healing lids? I use to hate inoculating without them, it was so tedious!

Yeah... Your method is great! Living in Hawaii, it's a perfect temp for active mold. I've always had contam problems with my inocs (close to 90% of all jars) if I inoced with just the still air method. I always needed a hepa filter to get those things out.
But your method really saves money. So far I've not have had no contams with your method. So for those who can't really afford a blower/hepa filter setup, and their environment makes their contam rate high, this is a great method.

I inoculate almost the same way except I use those disposable alcohol wipes.

i never messed with silicon yet, must give it a go sometime.
micropore tape and gloves is troublesome.

you can pc it after about 30min(once it is dry enough not to stick to the foil) it will cure in the pc.

On the package it says to allow 24 hours, however I noticed they were cured before then.

I noticed a lot of people have done that as well. I didn't have grain ready to PC, so I had to wait till it was ready to, which was around 12 hours or so.

I'm going to give this method a shot. Sounds fantastic. Would also like to mention that you can boil the sponge to kill off anything else that may be residing on it before you soak it in alcohol.

I usually just use a new one that is unopened. I am lazy!
