Copyright Infringement Email with settlement offer

So I got an email from my ISP saying some company caught me downloading a porn of their's ( ) and the email contains a link and a password to go pay a settlement fee "to avoid civil proceedings"
Going to this site and putting in the login info they gave me is just asking for trouble, right?
It doesn't say how much the settlement would be to pay, but I'm guessing logging in would just be an admission of guilt.
I've deleted the file from my computer, and if I get a court order I'm just gonna huck the fucking hard drive out the window of my car onto the interstate....or more likely give it to a friend for safe keeping.
Anybody know the best way to proceed here? I hardly ever check the email account that email was sent to, and it was about a week ago the last email was sent to me.
I would think that since I got the email from my ISP that they still haven't given them my identity, think this will just blow over?

yeah man, just don't reply.
I got something similar from my iSP. They forwarded an email they got from the MPAA to me for downloading a popular movie at the time. Anyways, the email had a link and some information for me to contact them. First thing i did was go over my ISP's privacy policy one more time,a nd then call them. In the end, my ISP is not allowed/doesn't give out any of my info unless they have a warrant or are subeona to court, which they were neither, i deleted the email and forgot it ever happened.
This company does not have any of your info yet, so do not contact them, do not 'pay the settlement', just forget you got the email for now...IMO
worked for me and mine was with the MPAA, not some small porno company

it does sound like a scam; you may get better responses if you post this in the security forum.

That's strange. I received a few threats from my ISP for downloading any EA sports titles. Usually just stating generally that they reserve the right to cancel service blah blah blah but never an actual link to any service or person.
Funny enough because this is the 3rd or 4th time and each time I respond by saying I own a full legally purchased copy of the item in question and am allowed to retrieve any back up copies I may have access too, and then threaten to cancel services. They usually apologize and offer some stupid bullshit services package for a month.

They wouldn't have just e-mailed you saying "hey you stole shit. pay us and well forget about it" - if anything they'd send a letter to your home.

flameclown said: I would do nothing. These people sound like scammers. I would guess that they have a contract with a major porn distributor and they bulk email these types of messages to suspected infringers. What evidence do they have against you? probably very little if anything.
they were probably offering to settle for something very reasonable, say under $200? if so, they are definitively bs. if so their business model relies upon settling with infringers in bulk rather than individually prosecuting. if they were real, they would know the true value of prosecuting you based off the severity of infringement. you were looking at some porn, fuck it, dont pay any attention to them they're fuckin scammers.
That's a very good point. I'm certainly not gonna pay em anything.
It helps having all my downloaded files on one external HD that I can throw away if it's necessary
