the i in maoi is inhibitor so u don't have to say maoi inhibitor, syrian rue seeds are commonly used and can be ordered online. it stands for monamine oxidase inhibitor. i don't know a ton about the science though.

The anti depressants Lexapro, Effexor, Zoloft and Cymbalta are a few exaples of MAOIs.

Research MAOI's a LOT before you injest them, they can become fatal very easily.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maoi#Indications
i wouldnt recommend taking an maoi with shrooms, for you anyway.

this is misinformation.
syrian rue seeds are probably the cheapest and most potent MAOI from a plant source. just crush them and wash down with water. i would NOT take more than a 1.5-2 grams mushroom dose with 2-3 grams syrian rue the first time. this should be quite strong.

Ya, man lexapro and zoloft are ssri's and effexor and cymbalta are snri's. Don't spread misinformation like that, it is dangerous. Some of the older antidepressants are maoi.

Curious....
Isn't their a "special maoi diet" that you're supposed to follow?...
How important is this with small doses of an MAOI (less than 2g/Syrian Rue)?

THe MAOI diet is only really important for the pharmaceutical MAOIs (since they bind irreversibly and knock out your MAO for days/weeks.
The MAOIs you want to use are short-acting RIMAs - Reversible Inhibitors of MAO-A. Harmine, harmline, and tetrahydroharmine are all RIMAs. And for RIMAs, all the dietary restrictions can basically be ignored. And just to be clear, that's only dietary restrictions that can be ignored - interactions with medications and pharmaceuticals can still be very dangerous. Always be well-informed about what you're putting in your body.

Those are all SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) except Cymbalta which is an SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor).
Both classes of drugs are very different from MAOI's and would likely DECREASE the effects of mushrooms, and at any rate, would not be recommended as a combination.
Remember that these are powerful man-made synthetic pharmaceuticals and you have to be extraordinarily careful about mixing them with anything, especially other medicines and/or drugs.
Be very careful about getting your information from a forum, it can be very hit-or-miss.

Sorry for having to ask a semi relevant question no this thread, but you guys seem to know your drugs and there interactions well. I'm on Topamax 25mg once a day (for migraines, also could be for seizures) would it still be ok to use mushrooms? I can't find any information on the internet AT ALL about this.

Should be fine. The reason mushrooms and SSRIs are no go is because they basically flood the brain with seratonin (if i am correct) making your trip a dulled experience.
As with mixing MAOIs with shrooms or other drugs is serious business. Know what you are getting yourself into.

Kava Kava extracts work great, i taker 150-300mg of kavalactones about 3-6 hours before a trip, it does wonders
harmine/harmaline are great too, i would smoke/vape it tho, if you eat tannins your gonna hurl
kava is a maoi-B
harmine/harmaline is a maoi-A
kava 3-6 hours before and harmine 30min before will rock your dimension
edit: kava is sold at all health food / nutrition stores

I wouldn't suggest it unless you are VERY experienced with tripping on high doses of shrooms. MAOIs involve a special diet for the day and can also include some serious physical discomfort. High doses come first.
Yes, it does increase trip intensity, but it also affects the actual experience of the trip.
EDIT: Just read that with short acting MAOIs-harmaline, ect-diet can be ignored mostly. Still, I wouldn't take caffeine with one, and since I'm addicted to it like most americans, that caused enough of a problem on its own.

don't use any maoi's, especially both, unless you have conquered yourself at doses of 5 grams or higher
