Yes - otherwise your desiccant will be sucking moisture out of the air in the room. I used a large pyrex container and some cheese cloth to separate my mushrooms from the silica gel, it worked great.

I like Tupperware I burp them and no they're airtight! :wink: How about the "Borg"! This is a circulating desiccant dry design of mine and actuall worked beautiful for smaller quantities.

The center chamber holds the shrooms on a screen while the lower chamber holds the desiccant the upper chamber holds an axial fan that recirculates the air down through the shrooms into the desiccant and back around. It is a sealed unit.

That is very cleaver! I'm gonna have to find a way to dry a large amount of mushrooms though as I'm doing all kinds of experiences and my desk is full of inocd substrate. All colonizing very weel, both grains and cakes... I don't even have space on my desk to write anymore! =/ :laugh:
