Small mushrooms on BRF cake

Mazatapecs BRF 1/2 pint cakes. slow colonization time, about 1-1.5 months, 84oF during colonization, 74oF and 99% humidity in FC fanned 3-5 times daily, rolled and dunked. I've read it could be genetics or unfavorable conditions but I feel nothing I've done should be out of the ordinary. Any thoughts?

And here's my newest pinset.

Hopefully I see a little more growth.

I see you've been fanning them, but have you misted as well? Moisture ebb and flow are important pinning triggers.

well the perlite is keeping the FC at 99% humidity so would misting be necessary or would that be overkill?

Always necessary. The RH is one thing, the water available in the substrate is another.

84f is a little on the high side...but thats not too bad you have to mist ...

The mistake for small fruits is right here.

Not so. BRF is the most nutritious substrate we use, bar none.
Your cakes are dry and that's the reason for the poor performance. Even at 99% humidity, your cakes dry out, and you MUST mist a few times daily to replace that lost moisture. You can set the cakes in a saucer of water overnight mid-flush to re-hydrate them. RR

Such a simple mistake I'm surprised I overlooked. Thanks for the help, commence the misting.
