split caps???

Hi, I am not a first time grower, but I have experienced what may be a problem for the first time. Nearly every cap is split instead of being a nice circle, and most of them did it over night. None of the mushrooms are very big either, only a few have enen dropped their veil. Any ideas? I can send pics if need be, I just try to aviod using my dig camera at all costs.

PS. I am growing the usual PF tek spores, nothing too exotic.

PF tek spores??? they have a name you know. i think you may be talking about puertos or some similar strain like that. they have a tendency to crack to no fault of your own.

I have that sometimes. Don't know why it happens.

I never seen that as a problem, tough...

They're a bit uglier than non-split mushrooms, but they serve the same purpose, don't they?  :wink:

I think that the cap is growing but the veil is not breaking causing the cap to split... eventually the veil drops and the end result.. clover lookin shrooms... that is my guess.. I noticed the same thing when i gave my cap a lil squeeze... split in the same manner as untouched split caps... I can only assume that it is the veils fault.
