i was thinking growing from straight cakes will produce much faster than going from crumbled cakes to a monotub (straw/earthworm casting substrate)
So this is my first grow in about a year and the only mushrooms i have ever had have been grown by myself because they are impossible to find where i live.
But yea im extremely excited about just taking the mushrooms as i am growing them.
So i have 7 1/4pint jars colonizing right now (figured they would colonize faster then 3 or 4 1/2pints) and i was thinking about just doing one or two of the cakes PF tek method in a tea pitcher and crumbling the rest to add to the bulk substrate.
First question anything i should know about PF tekkin in a tea pitched
Second Question how many jars do you think would be sufficient for a Laundry basket sized storage tote (laundry basket with lid and no holes)

In a tea pitcher as a fruiting chamer? sure it will work.

I like this one, just a 2 litre soda bottle with the top cut of and cling film as a lid. You can also use the top that you cut of to slide inside and use it like a pump for air exchange.
I harvested 55 grams from 1 of those recently first flush.
1/4 pint cakes will colinise faster, ive seen a few good cake grows from 1/4 pints and the flushes were pretty decent, not far off what a 1/2 pint puts out. You wont get faster to fruits than fruiting cakes.
If you spawn to bulk you will add time as it has to colinise the food but you should icnrease your yeilds since your adding more food.
Even just straight crumbling takes much longer than cakes left alone. I have a straight cake in a mini double tub that didnt fruit for over a week while my cakes had been harvested already and the yeild was exactly the same as the cakes that were left as cakes.

well if you spawned 4 jars you would have 1 pint of spawn so you should use 4 pints of bulk substrate. I think you need a smaller tub.

You could take 4 of those fully colonized 1/4 pint jars, grate them up into small bits and mix them or layer them into some bulk substrate, such as horse poo. That's how you would get the most bang for your bulk. Just use bulk trays!
Get some deep aluminum trays from Wal-Mart, line them with some garbage bag, and use a 1:3 ratio. So you could use 1 pint of spawn with 3 pints of horse poo for 4 pints total. I have some deep loaf pans that I'm going to use, and with this ratio it leaves just enough room for a casing layer if I want it, with the substrate being a pinch less than 3 inches thick. Cover that thing in aluminum foil, poke a few holes with a fork and let it colonize. When it's done, case and let colonize for a bit more or just stick it into a fruiting chamber. you can use a shotgun fruiting chamber if you want (just don't have the trays sitting directly on perlite). The bulk sub will be releasing it's own humidity, but adding some damp perlite to the shotgun FC wouldn't hurt and it would probably help. Bing, bang, bong, done... lol

Im not using horse poo im using earthworm castings and straw.....
Yes i would rather use H-Poo alone but i have no source for it where I live.
But i have plenty of bails of straw i bailed myself.
And while i was at the tree nursery getting vermiculite i saw earthworm castings but had never read about them so after reading im just going to go buy some of that and mix it with my straw.
Also is coir hard to find? The tree nursery i went to had bunches and bunches of stuff like hydro food 100 different soils seed starters perlite verm anything i could think of but i didnt see coir anyhwere?
