question about making agar

So I plan on making agar, as the premade agar in the country which i'm currently living in seems to be outrageously expensive.
For light malt extract, all I could find is something called "dry malt light (spray malt)" I think that the brand is Morgan. (beer brewing isn't popular here so choices are limited) Is this the same thing as light malt extract? And if it's not, will it work?
Also, I found food grade agar, but it doesn't say Agar Agar, only Agar (it's a powder). But this is the same right?
Sorry if these questions seem newbish, but I tried search and especially couldn't find an answer about the malt extract.

Potatoes??? I'm trying to make Malt Extract agar...
I actually haven't bought the malt extract or agar yet which is why i'm trying to confirm if those are the right kind. Don't wanna end up wasting money.

From what I understand, MEA can be used the same way.
So yeah.. anyone know if "dry malt light (spray malt)" is the same as light malt extract?

Sure sounds like teh stuff. It'll be a sticky tan powder, dissolves in water with a bit of stirring. You might also be able to find malt sugar (maltose) in your country.

Your agar powder should be good. I am unsure about the malt spray (spray?) but if you are in doubt PDA can be made easily. I know mushhunter10 has a good guide on making potato dextrose(or honey) agar easily even without a scale.

I think "spray" just means that it was made into a fine powder, from what i've read on wikipedia. But thanks for the reply guys. I guess i'll just try it out and home for the best.

Hi: It sounds like you have found every thing you need. The spray just means sprayed dried DME, light and wheat DME are usually sprayed dried. The jell strength of food grade agar is not as strong as lab grade, just use 20 grams per liter to compensate instead of the normal 15 grams. Try to find your self some nutritional yeast powder. The basic malt extract agar is 30 grams light or wheat DME, 20 grams agar and 2 grams nutritional yeast or yeast extract into a liter of distilled water. Heat to dissolve the ingredients and sterilize at 250f/15psi for 30min.. Dr Qi

Would Morgan Ale yeast be the same thing? From what I can see I can get Morgan Ale yeast, Morgan Lager yeast, etc. I don't know which one is "nutritional yeast". Theres probably more options, but I'm not completely fluent in the language of the country i'm living in so I'd have to get a friend help me find out.
