Slow colonizing mototub....

I have 3 quarts of PESA spawned to 3 1/2 inches of H poo, and it's been about a week and a half. Conditions seem normal except...
1. There are/were fruit flys in the tub for about 2 days, I fanned the tu to get them out, and now there are maggots (like 2-3) visible around my tub. I'm assuming there may be more in the substrate.
2. The temps are very warm inside. I'd say the normal room temps are 82, and I'm assuming the myc temp is well over 87. How should I cool this to get back down to 75-80? I've heard putting the tub in some water may help, anyone have any experience doing this?
I've opened the tub about a half dozen times, to get the flies out/kills maggots. It has probably left me open to contaminants...
Any input is appreciated.

Anyone? The tub is colonizing, but very slow, and I'm positive it's because of the temps. I don't have the means to but anything at the moment, but some homemade device/trick to get temps more to the mycelliums liking.

To raise the temp, over your fridge stays warmer for colonizing.
Room temp works for fruiting the mono. Well as long as your house isn't hot.
Also if you are watching your mono daily it seems to go slower in your mind, just leave it alone and wait good things will come.
I have a basement so I fruit there, It holds low 70's I keep them around 75 if I can help it.
Good Luck with your grow.

At those temps you are way over the top. Water for colonizing? No way.

Yeah, I am checking it an aweful lot, I remember roger rabbit saying something like to put tub/FC in a pan of cold water, but I was wondering if anyone had experience doing this.
And yes, it's very warm where I live.

That's called dunking. You do that after colonization.

Well what I do for mono tubs.. After I mix the bulk substrate and spawn together I then place it in the mono tub and put duct tape over the holes to prevent to much fresh air exchange from getting in.. I then leave it at room temp around 72-76 degrees and colonization is usually about 9-14 days.. What was your spawn ratio ?

Spawn ratio is 3:1
And I'm not talking about "dunking".
It was something like getting a shallow pan full of cold water and putting the WHOLE monotub in it. Not to wet the substrate, but to cool the actual tub.
