Contams and the shotgun chamber?
    #10612284 - 07/02/09 09:41 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

I dont understand how the shotgun fruiting chamber works without getting contaminated. Since its always open and has tons of holes, it seems like using one is just asking for contamination. If someone could explain this to me, and how it keeps from getting contaminated, that would put my mind at ease. Thanks guys!

The cakes that you place in a shotgun fruiting chamber should be totally colonized.  When substrate is completely colonized by mycelium, contams are usually resisted and are not as much of a problem.

Lots of fresh air is the way to prevent fully colonized substrates from molding.  Put them in stale, still air and they'll mold fast.
