Almost ready
    #10608170 - 07/02/09 06:24 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

Alright guys, I'm one week away from putting half of my 8 cakes in the FC.  I have read in numerous other posts that exposing my jars to light during the consolidation week is beneficial.  What does it do for the cakes, and how much light are we talking about?  I was thinking of placing the jars inside the empty SGFC with my lights mounted on top.

Will this be too much light? If this is acceptable, should I expose them to the 12 on, 12 off cycle that I'll use for fruiting, or should I expose them less?

The bulbs I'm using are:

Also, will the corner of the room be a good spot for the FC, or should I move it to the middle of the area?

from what i understand u only need light for the mushy to know witch way is up. I would only use one of them unless u need to raise temp.12 on and 12 off i beleve

wrong, bright light in the daylight range will do wonders for pinsets. Mushrooms grown under proper lighting also look much healthier.

Those 2 lights  will be fine as long as there fluerescent bulbs that are 6500K. If there incandescent change them.

Yes, its benificial to expose jars to ambient lighting during the week consolidaiton. Your cakes will pin sooner once birthed.

I expose my jars to natural light from day 1 and they pin very quickly. And im getting decent harvests. I just harvested 55 grams wet from 1 cake, and 55 grams wet from another which was crumbled. Im seeing much better results from when i first started and incubated in darkness and failed to wait the full week consolidation

Right Veda, that was my main question with this post.  Should I keep the light truly ambient by say... leaving a small lamp on in the room, or should I point these two 6500k CFL's on em for 12 hours a day? I'm only talking about the consolidation week here, I know they need the full blast for 12 hours a day during fruiting.

P.S. Congrats on the sweet flush!

The full blast for consolidation week is only good!

I'm thinking that perhaps I'll just use one of the two lights for the consolidation week, and maybe pit it towards the ceiling so that the light is more ambient than direct...
