Here's some pics of my FC with 8 pf cakes!! I started everything by the first week of June (My first time)... Now this is what I got... The fruit (Cambo strain) that's grown has been disappointingly small I've only picked one shroom so far.. it was 4g wet.. and it's less than .1 dry!!! I couldn't believe it!! Anyway enjoy the pics and tell me if anything's wrong..

good that you got some shrooms.
next time after dunking roll the cake so all side are covered in dry verm.
also cut the foil so you use the minimum amount to keep them off the wet perlite.
also don't spray the shrooms till they are wet and fan after misting

TOGETHER!!! I don't know If I'll ever get trip material out of these even if I go for a 1.5-2g dry dose!! Oh and thanks for the tips!!

Fruit size is small due to improper water content via the cake or your fruiting conditions are not optimal.

Lets see... I mist about 4-5 times a day.. Fan about 5-6 times a day.. humidity levels almost always are above 95%... Room temperature 82-85F .. 12 hours of a 6500 Fluorescent light near the FC plus some indirect sunlight during daytime coming into the room through a couple of windows... I think that this is definitely not too far away from Optimal conditions for fruiting.. oh.. and I also dunked every one of those cakes 24hours+ after birthing...

i have the same problem. pf cakes, in shotgun terr (b+) with hundreds of holes in it. mist 3-4 times a day and fan twice that. my biggest fruit to date was 10g wet, and most of the others have not gotten more then 1.5" tall. what the hell am i doing wrong? most of the pics i see of pf cakes in the same type of fc are at least 2 to 3 times as big as mine.

Normally, fruit size is related to substrate moisture content. Try lifting the cakes and you can judge moisture level by how much they weigh. It takes a few grows to get the feel for it, but next time you birth/dunk and roll, pay attention to how heavy the cakes are. If you suspect they're drying out later, you can lift one and tell right away. You can also set cakes in a saucer of water overnight mid-flush.
I should mention that waterlogged cakes will also perform poorly and have small fruits. You have to find that happy spot in the middle. RR

Yes and those cakes are water logged! DO NOT MIST DIRECTLY!!! Mist above the cakes and let the mist fall onto the cakes, you need technique my friend. GL

Yup, that's the way I do it. Grew some Texas on cakes. Crazy mushrooms - huge gnarly stalks in clusters, and solid - no sponginess. But they suck the cakes dry each time they grow a cluster. Never seen anything like them before. Pick a cake up to test and it's light as a feather! Dunk time!

rr & hyphae, thanks for the guidance. i do believe my issue to be too much moisture as opposed to not enough. i guess i have to work on getting my misting down pat.

Read my pinning strategy it works IF YOU FOLLOW IT. GL in the future my friend!!! Psilocybear is a great example of how not to do it! Sorry Psilocybear but that is a prime example and I do appreciate the pics so others can see and better understand what way too much looks like.

Well, I'm glad I served a purpose! Thansk to everyone for their input. Hyphae what are the visual signs that a cake looks waterlogged?? Is there a way to un-waterlog them?? Maybe it's too late for 5 of those cakes but three of them were birthed and dunked about 48 hours ago!! How do I know how much msiting is allright??

you'll be able to see the moisture on the inside glass of the jars if you are waterlogged. Also look at the bottoms of the jars and see if any water is pooling. I ran into this issue my last experiment. Oh, damn I just noticed you've birthed them.

If they're soft and spongy, they're waterlogged. Just back off on misting and let them dry out. The big thing is to make sure they're isolated from the perlite so they're not drawing up water from there. That's a much more frequent cause of waterlogging than overmisting. RR

You can see from the mycelium it is "depressed" or cupped and shiny wet. Simply stop mist your cakes for a day or two while still providing plenty of FAE. Lift a cake up does it see kind of heavy for it's size? One really needs to develop a feel for how they feel best way is to note their weight when first placed into the FC. Fan then mist lightly 2-3 squirts above the cakes letting the mist fall on them. Misting several light mistings are much better than fewer heavier mistings always! If FAE is good then maybe you'll need 4-5 squirts? This is the part where you come into play and develop your own judgment. GL
