Hyphae always says "GL", don't read anything into it. You might want to change out your perlite with some cleaner perlite.

I may be wrong, but I don't think it will hurt anything, as long as your cakes (I'm assuming you're doing BRF cakes) don't come in contact with the perlite.
I'm guessing you bought the miracle grow perlite, I think it has potting soil with miracle grow additives in it. Get some regular perlite, or separate the "soil" and clean thoroughly.

It's one of the coprinus species, a common contaminant.
I'm curious how you got the perlite to stay vertical like that and the mushroom grew out horizontally? RR

I havent bought perlite in a long time but I could get it pure when I did. Next time try to get it pure or rinse the soil out. and soak the perlite in 10% hydrogen peroxide (By 10% I mean 9 parts water 1 part hydrogen peroxide you get from the pharmacy). Hydrogen peroxide breaks down very quickly in light so it wont hurt your grow.
And another important thing is dont handle dry perlite without a mask or something the dust is very bad for you if you breath it in.

so how do i get rid of it?
and yes i took the picture sideways.
should i take the cakes out and replace the perlite?
will it spread the the cakes and contamintate the cakes if i dont do anything?
or only if i eat it.
what is the best solution?
thanks

I would change the perlite unless the cakes are fruiting then change after you pic the flush. they wont poison your shrooms dont worry.

throw the cakes in another container and switch out your perlite with some decent stuff that doesn't have any soil in it.
before you take your cakes out and place them in another container make sure you have you new perlite all ready to go so that that exchange can be done as fast as possible and your cakes can be in optimal fruiting conditions again.
Imo, I wouldn't feel comfortable with have soil in with my perlite. Give's molds something nice and juicy and nutritious to start on.

plain water is fine. Once your cakes are fully colonized they're pretty contaminant resistant.
After each grow rinse your perlite in a 10% bleach solution, not peroxide. peroxide really has no place in mycology except for maybe cobweb.
