Question about adding honey to substrate

I was wondering if adding a small amount of honey, like a tablespoon or so to the water that is to be mixed in with the verm. and brown rice flour would increase yields and quailty in shrooms after the cakes are birthed? or if it would be damaging of have no effect? I mean isnt that just more food for the shrooms to eat? Any input in appreciated

i know where your getting at. you think that adding honey will make the mycelium grow faster or whatnot....
check this. vission tek
im actually going to suggest to a friend about putting this yeast into the substrate
i think it would do a hell of alot better than honey.
good luck. ribbit

i would also suggest yeast over honey..i have not done either but from what ive seen on honey in the substate is useless and can gum up the substrate and make in ungrowable

I use honey in my substrate it adds a little more food for the mycelium to consume, but I don't think it makes much of a difference. I have read about the vission tek and it looks like it does a lot, but that does not mean that yeast will effect the substrate that much since it is not used in a liquid medium of sugar. When the yeast is added to the liquid medium containing sugar the yeast produces certain excretions and this is probably what makes the mycelium grow better. I say go ahead with the honey and compare to some without honey. This way you can see for yourself if it makes a difference. The problem is that it may look as though it made a difference if you only do it with one jar, so make sure you do 3 with and 3 without to ensure you can see if there any results. Make sure you add the honey to warm or boiling water. That way it will dissolve completely. I personally think it makes a little bit of a difference, but not really a whole lot. I just keep doing it out of habit..

What I was getting at is that since you are not putting the yeast in a liquid medium with sugar in it it probably wouldn't have the same effects.
