Lets say wild birdseed and golden teacher? If you had access to every type of known fecal matter, which would you use, or which combination would you use?

I know this, lets not turn this into the whole "can human poo grow shrooms??" argument.
Out of the generally accepted types of poo, cow, horse, rabbit, deer, moose, etc, which one is the best, or which combination is the best? (when hypothetically applied to WBS inoculated with golden teacher

Whn did he say he was growin cubensis, some ways of preperation wash out nutrients and in my experience, horses are more picky about the grass they eat compared to cows and not all animals that just "eat grass" can be used because their stomach acids are too strong

Go for horse manure over cow manure... or mix some of the two together- more horse than cow. Straight cow manure is super digested; horse manure is less so. Horse manure seems to have a more light airy texture. Mix aged horse manure with straw for best effect.

So long as its leached, aged and dried, use whatever is free and easily had. There are so many variables in mycology with the standards changing as we learn more and more. Use whats free and use it with a combination of other additives. Coffee, straw, coir, gypsum, verm, worm castings, compost etc.
The 'search' feature will yield all your answers and you'll learn a lot from reading through the posts. Check the archive too.
Above all, use whats freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

You're mixing up the terms "strain" and "species" in your statements. It is safe to assume that new posters in this particular forum are referring to cubensis in their questions.
Which animals are you referring to? ~Pixie~

Aha- not if it grows giant, super potent mushrooms!
Really, I figure whatever a rabbit poops out in a week would be a nice additive to a monotub. But you'd have to pasteurize it or something.

K, so I'm going to use either straight horse poo, or a combination of horse and cow poo, with the majority of the combo being horse poo. That sound good Doc?

Well, I guess it is going to have to do if you can't get the unicorn poo.
Seriously, I don't know- I don't use it. I just tried earthworm poo for the first time, it's too early to tell how it's going. And gypsum!

If you are able to find good quality manure, it sounds like you are on your way. Try to find manure that has been aged so that you won't have to leach the ammonia/ urine out of it. It should be nice and light colored like this:

A horse farmer gave me this manure to use as fertilizer in my organic vegetable garden. Stuff that smells like urine/ ammonia will need extra processing to be usable for your purposes! If possible definitely go out and collect your own... Look up a horse farm in the phone book and go on a road trip... Just fill up tubs or lawn and garden bags.
See if you can find any straw to add to the horse poo/ other poo mix... helps to speed up colonization times. They usually sell bales at Agway or some other agricultural store- you want it to be golden in color, not green like hay is.

I've been wondering this a bit myself, and wanting to try goat/sheep/llama manure. Also, there's a commercial rabbitry near me, and I can probably get vast amounts of rabbit poo whenever I want. It's on my list of things to try in the near future anyway.
