Problem with one of my BRF jars

On one of my jars at the point of inoculation there are two different colored colonies setting up. One of them looks like the little splotches on all of my other jars, but the other is a much brighter white color and not as "stringy" as the other one. Anyone have any ideas?

If it's all white, it's probably just two different mycelium patches.

Sorry, don't have a camera I can use at the moment for a picture.
I just looked at it again and in describing it I should have said that it's about the same consistency as the other patch (looks a little fuller) but is just a stronger white than the other. Maybe just more mycelium packed together?
Also, I only have 5 1/2 pint jars going at the moment and four of them have signs of growth while one does not. Does this mean that this jar will probably never yield? Or might it just take a little longer?

Don't be too concerned. It is an experiment and you will eventually learn to do it correctly. If you want to be concerned about something, be concerned about mischievous bored monkeys interfering with your personal work.
Cheers

I'm more concerned about my LC working out. Because if I can make a viable LC, I can knock up a lot of dem der jars.

ya don't "when in doubt toss it out."
If you're really uneasy, separate it from the rest of the jars and give it time.

When in doubt bury it in your garden and hope a patch shows up.

If it IS indeed contamed and he's giving it time to be sure...I guess PERSONALLY I would want the cake with a chance of contam to be A DISTANCE from the rest of my, uncontammed cakes.
MAYBE THIS IDEA IS COMPLETE SH*T, I DUNNO

how is the 'contam' going to magically fly through the glass and spread throughout the other jars?

Not through the glass, through the filter. Isolate suspect jars.

Of course, better to err on the side of caution, than risk fruiting from a contaminated cake.
So, to suggest the obvious: use thy intuition and analyze well!
Also, there may be some valuable data in the archives.

You need to have a filter, how else is your jar going to get filtred gas exchange.
Mycelium can sometimes look odd when it first starts. 1 jar i had i squirted too much solution and it went right from the top to the bottom in a wide patch. It started growing in lots of tiny grey patches and kept on growing thin and see through, it honestly looked bad until a week later rhyzos showd up and the rest thicked up as it fully colinised.
"when in doubt toss it" its horrible advice and has caused many jars probably healthy to be dumped.

I checked the jar today and those two spots are kind of merging and they look pretty uniform in color now. I think it was just two different little patches of mycelium starting that happened to be different densities I suppose. Looks good to me!
I know the time would vary, but on average, about when could you tell if your BRF jar was contaminated? Is it usually early on or can you have a jar go all the way only to get contaminated right at the very end?
