Question About Misting
    #10602452 - 07/01/09 09:21 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

I was just wondering if I've got 95-100% RH in a GH from an Ultrasonic/Perlite would it be necessary to mist the casings? They don't look like they're drying out but I wasn't sure if that would oversaturate them, Thanks.

Always mist. Always. Then fan vigorously for 20 seconds.

If you're giving the proper amount of fresh air exchange, your substrate will dry out even at 99% humidity.  If you pump too much mist with an ultrasonic, the substrate can't begin to dry out, and loss of moisture from a substrate is the number ONE pinning trigger.  It's important to lose moisture, and then replace it via misting.  This ebb and flow of moisture content is the major pinning trigger.  Said another way, fresh air is the number one pinning trigger, because it causes this loss of moisture.  Either way, you need to mist.

Don't saturate your substrates with an ultrasonic or any other mechanical means.

Thanks RR, I wasn't aware of that. I was planning on coldshocking/light exposure to initiate pinning but I'll make sure my ultra isn't working overtime  Thanks again!

coldshocking with cubensis is totally unnecessary..
the only thing that will do is prolong pinning.
fuck what youve heard. dont coldshock.
room temperature dunking is perfect.
your cakes are not going to contaminate while being dunked.

I don't know where people read this coldshock thing.  I'm a noob and have read hundreds of teks and even more threads and have seen no misinformation about coldshocking yet, personally.

A coolmist humidifier is the way to go not ultrasonics. Coolmists provide moisture rich FAE's. As far as cold shocking it's just as everyone's said it does more harm than good. And FYI there's a big difference between cold shocking and a temperature drop of say 8F.
