Koh Samui

I have just inoculated 4 half pint jars of wheat berries with some myc from a jar of agar colonized by the strain Koh Samui. I don't know what to expect from this strain.Has anyone had experience with it?

Expect it to grow like any other Ps. cubensis race.

you should put this in the strain discussion. But one thing I'll add that seems to be unique about Koh Samui from my observation is that it drops spores very early. Right when the viel tears, it seems to spill out a ton of spores, kind of making a mess (this is WAY before the cap fully opens).
I think I've read a post on here about someone else noticing the same thing.

Really? The two main ones I work with are amazonian and Koh samui and the amazonians never did this. I mean as soon as there is a small tear in the veil, not when it completely detaches. I dunno
I've always had to print the K. Samui's much longer because of this to get an equally dark print as when I print the amazonians, (since a majority of the spores got dumped so early.)

I suppose I'll just take pictures next time to show what i mean, because I definitely notice a big difference in this trait among the two strains/races i regularly work with.

i believe you. but i think what you witnessed had more to do with genetics rather than the race(strain).

let me give you a parallel. using humans. this is coming right out my ass so just go with it.. say that an asian man goes bald at age 35 and an caucasian man goes bald at age 25..do you think it was genetics or race that caused these traits?

If just about all the asian men I saw went bald at 35 and about all the cacasian men I ever seen went bald at 25 with almost no deviation, I would think it had to do with race AND genetics, since race is the result of slightly differing genetics.
Haha, I see what your saying tho, I suppose this could just be a unique sub-strain i have. I just assumed everyone elses K. Samui's were the same.

Koh Samui is known for its fatass shrooms. Short cubes with thick stems and large caps. BUT, not all KS grows are the same. Many times, they end up looking like normal cubes.

I have noticed--has anyone else--that fatasses are not as potent as the long skinny guys of the same strain

No.
Not me.
I don't think the shape of a cube determines its potency.

I'm getting PE6 spores from a friend! 3mL, should make a zillion microscope slides.
