The Artwork of Alex and Allyson Grey

This saturday I was lucky enough to attend the Cosmic Ball, a benefit party for the Church of the Sacred Mirrors. It was essentially a psytrance party- with one twist, the Greys would be there painting all night. I expected amazing things, but I greatly underestimated these artists.
I will now try and explain what was so painfully obvious that night.

What you see in this picture is Allyson painting on the left, and Alex painting on the right. I would assume it was probably around 4am when this picture was taken, and they had been paintly nearly nonstop since 10pm. I had been enjoying them partly for most of the night, but at one point decided I needed to come and really dig what both of them were up to. I sat down, and focused on one at a time, to try and see what was at the core of it.
After some thought and a little more dancing, it suddenly came to me- just like one of those hidden pictures. My mistake the whole night had been viewing them, and their canvas', as two separate things. In actuality their art transcended the canvas and poured out into our world.
What Allysons painting represents, is the inherant chaos of this world. The disorder and randomness found everywhere. As for Alexs, his painting reveals to us the harmony present within us and the entire universe. This can be viewed as the opposing sides of the ying-yang, Allysons work being the white male aspect and Alexs being the black female aspect.
What this picture doesn't show is their method of painting. Allyson sat still the entire night, painting very delicate and deliberate squares one at a time. Alex weaved, bobbed, danced, looked at it from all angles, constantly flipped it upsidedown, and made quick brushstrokes. The way I saw it, this represented the tiny part of each ying yang that contains the others essence, for in this view Allyson now represented harmony and calm, while Alex was a random chaos. The technique each one chooses to use, is a direct contradriction to their actual painting.
Their work transcends both of their canvases, and encompasses them into forming a psychedelic fractal ying yang that shows you a new way to understand the universe. An incredible thing was that if you looked at Allysons painting enough, you would begin to see an underlying order- even within the chaos. Within Alexs art, you could see that it was composed of generally random dots and that if viewed at any other magnification would possibly become just chaos. Their art went within like this, almost indefinitely.
Then it got even stranger. I realized that their artwork went beyond themsevles. It was only in the minds of the partying observers that their art work could come together in this fractal ying yang. And it was possible to go further than that, for it could be said that after making this realization, the party would change in response- and become in a sense, another form of art by the Greys. And the parties effect on the world. etc etc. In other words, their art continued outwards as well.
I have never thought something like this could be possible. And I know it was not just me who had this. This effect was the intended effect of their art, and it hit everyone at the party who looked for the meaning. This is art that transcends even beyond the 3rd dimension, into something further.
I'll conclude with the final sentence I wrote down in my note book that night: 'and despite the two paintings difference between the two paintings, they together create a whole, unified painting - the whole universe/party'

That sounds amazing!
-------------------- "A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security." Albert Einstein

Honestly man, his art would made me cry if I saw it in person, it's that good. He really has something incredible that he's tapped into, and what comes out of his hands is simply incredible.

If I hadn't got laid off from my job, I was gonna go see them in action a couple weekends back in Harmony, MD. Shpongle was gonna be performing sets there with a Twisted Records All Star Tent...Skream and Benga were gonna be there too.
But I couldn't afford 125 bucks for a 3 day event general admission. not and have fun.

Yea man. It didn't get me to the point of crying but I am still in awe at what they can create. You can almost see the energy flying around it gets so thick. I hope I get another chance to see them live again.
He also presented two poems at the start of the night. 'The Seven Lights of Cannabis Wisdom' and 'Lets See Deeply'- a homage to LSD. I remember that second poem in particular... unless it was an intense placibo effect, it actually pushed the LSD flowing towards my brain into full power mode nearly instantly.

I was there man! That party was excellent!!
I read Alex's painting as so:
When you are in love, and kissing your significant other, all of the chaos, mystery and energy of the universe is focused in that one moment.

Badass story. I liked how you were describing yin and yang. I heard about another spiritual/mystical event called the mystic garden party. I think it should be coming up soon. I would consider going but I am really far :P
-------------------- "The moon reflects sunlight like humans reflect information. We wax and wane and when we become full moons, our egos are full. We think we have this knowledge when in fact, the information we have is pure. And how it reflects or shines off of us, is something we take credit for as though the moon could take credit for its brightness when, in fact, it is only reflecting light from the sun. We have to understand that we are ego-less just as the moon is without light. It and we are simply reflectors. The ego is not responsible for the information. It can reflect the information in creative ways, but the information itself is pure." -Maynard James Keenan ALLisONE

This was awesome to read. What an amazing opportunity you had. Grey's art blows my mind on a regular basis, I pray I get a chance to see them like you did someday.
