Simple Rye Seed Question

This is my first time using rye seed. I plan on spawning it to hpoo so it should do fine with cubensis right? And also in RR's video he says "soak for a few hours". Does it really only take a few hours? And if so would soaking for 24 hours be way to long?

You mean rye grain? Or rye grass seed?

I believe winter rye is the same as rye grain or berries. I use Winter rye and is is the same as normal RYE grain. Follow RR's grain tek. You should be able to tell by the size, rye grass seed is very thin and only takes a few hours to hydrate. GL, CH

Ive had great success simply filling the jars ( 1 L ) with 350ml of rye berries and 220ml of spring water, then PC for 1 hour, takes the soaking boiling aspect out of the equation, Ive tried both techniques and would suggest the simplified method for lots o' jars, Also Its possible to soak the grain in the jar to germinate endospores ( Just shake them periodically to hydrate all the grain) but if found this unnecessary, good luck,

Hah, this is getting confusing. Although I believe this to be rye seed as it is very thin (and thats what the man at the store said). Although on the bad it says "winter rye grain". I Actually at a loss now.

Meh, the bag says "winter rye grain". I'm gonna serve it up just like I always do, soak, simmer, pc. Just wish I didn't have to wait a week and 30 jars later to see if I'm totally boned.

a few pop, but keep it 15 PSI and low temperature, ive never had more than a dozen go in an entire jar, and usually less than that, That was only because i was using an adjustable pressure cooker a friend had and wasn't familiar with it. With a simple weight rocker PC grains rarely pop using this method, and saves a lot of time, I think the average PSI is probably more like 12 with the rocker weight style, so simply keep it low 12-15 PSI ( If it's adjustable)for one hour. Try it once and you'll be convinced,

Ive never found it called winter rye. Post a pic, If its the whole grain it has to be the same, I would think.

My rye berries are called "Organic Northwest Winter Rye Berries". What you have sounds like rye berries to me. ~Pixie~

sorry, Head of Mike, I neglected to read the post where you said its rye seed, I'm not sure if this is the same beast at all, There seems to be different terms for rye grains but as far as Ive found usually in Canada they're called berries, I apologize if this caused any confusion, The above pictured seed looks nothing like the berries

Yeah thanks guys, but I've already mastered the art of preparing, inoc', spawning, and growing monster fucking mushrooms on rye grain. I just hate paying so much for the stuff and I have terrible luck with wbs. When I read a post that rye grass seed is good so long as it's spawned I figured I'd give it a try. Problem is, I had no idea what I had. But the above picture helped alot (thanks cyber!) So what I've got is rye seed. Back to my original question. So this stuff only needs to be soaked a few hours? And works fine for cubensis as long as it's spawned to bulk?

I tried to get a pic of my winter rye, it is at least 2-3x as thick as the seed. But my camera sucks. But yes if you have seed just add gypsum and water and let it sit for a few hours. Follow RR's tek. GL, CH
