hpoo larva...
    #10598254 - 06/30/09 02:59 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

some sort of larva, no sure what it is, in my hpoo which i have leeching outside. Is that entirely a bad thing or could it be beneficial? I had it in pots with drainage holes but have realized its not really drying so i have since moved it to a patch directly on the ground. Which is when i noticed the larva. I live in the desert so it will dry very quickly, and i assume will kill the larva. Any thoughts??

larvae = bad :thumbdown:

I'd suggest you hit up the search engine to learn about leaching poo. Type 'leaching poo' in the box at upper right and see what you get.

Is this composted manure?  If it's just some solitary guy in there I can't see that being a problem. ~Pixie~

Its now spread out evenly so it will dry quickly, which I'm sure will kill the larvae.(i think) I had it in the pot so i could flush it out but left it in there too long. Why would it be a bad thing? and am i correct that when the poo dries, the larvae will as well? I assume it would be bad to have them in colonizing substrate, but wouldn't they die pasteurizing it before use? its about 95 outside and dry.

why larvae = bad?

I figure it's indicative of a healthy soil. They'll cook out anyways when it gets pasteurized... no?
