Tub colonization/fruiting question (pictures)
    #10595520 - 06/30/09 12:23 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

this is my first monotub grow, so far so good. i just want to see if i've made a mistake. i have 2 puerto ricans and 1 mazapatec, the tubs are coir/coffee/verm.
anyway, all three are colonizing quite well. on the top layer of the two puerto ricans, it is mostly colonized apart from one or two very small patches of exposed substrate. i was impatient and took the plastic bag off the top of the myc to let light in, introduced it to fruiting conditions.
this was a couple days ago, so of course no action yet...i'm just wondering if i should replace the bag and try and let it colonize again, or is this too late. or am i worrying about something that doesn't need to be, considering it seems to be practically fully colonized anyway?

the reason i felt comfortable introducing it to fruiting conditions was because i read something somebody wrote on here about how they do it before full colonization every time for some timing reason or whatever..is this misinformation?

The uncolonized parts could contaminate, although I have had success just as yours look.

You could still put the bag back on and push the mycelium back to colonzing conditions.

I guess it's up to you. No worry is needed though. It never is.

does the mycelium really continue to colonize after it has been put into fruiting conditions?

hi, i have 4 holes of about 1 1/2" diameter just above the 4" of substrate. the humidity, to me, seems fine, as there is condensation on the sides now, and there are also little pools of water on the substrate itself (which i'm not sure if i should leave or not?)

i just checked the two tubs and it seems the holes are closing a bit, despite fruiting conditions

I wouldn't leave any standing water dab it up with a papertowel unless they're very small then leave them they will be absorbed soon enough. GL
