lions mane grow pics

I recently grew some lions mane. This is the strain from sporeworks.
I inoculated about 900 mls wheat with 3 ml lc. It seemed to take a long time to colonize, and I thought it might be no good. (maitake done at the same time was very fast)
after about 2 weeks I was going to just let them go, but I noticed small white primordia all over the place in the wheat.
I boiled 2 liters of water and added it straight to 2 liters of wood pellets in regular kitchen trash bags, twisted closed, shook it up and left it to cool over night.
inoculated each bag with one liter spawn, poked small holes around the bad and left in a closed rubbermaid for about 2 weeks, thats when I noticed some white spots around the holes. the bags did not look colonized (which I know is kind of the norm with hericium)
I put these in the fc on 6/13 and harvested all of the small guys on 6/28, about 6 or 8 golf ball sized.
Harvested the big ones yesterday. the biggest is about 8-10" across.
I dont really like mushrooms, but I cooked the small ones in oil with garlic, and a little butter and they were good. I am thinking maybe to grill the big guys,. They look kinda like cauliflower when sliced.

Yeah, I will try everything I grow, just to see. These really were pretty good. My wife says they are delicious.
and thanks for the flash-pasteurization tip and ratios! works like a charm.
I had a big batch in the fermenter, but I let it sit around for a while without any air pressure, and now its growing some green islands.....
oh well, next time.

Holy Crap. I had some setbacks with my sporeworks Hericium. This is inspiring. I hope mine end up this successful. Good grow!

Great job Caricapapaya!
Those look very nice!
I haven't any experience with this species. I have only a little experience with edibles/medicinals at all really (although I will soon).
I have a question though. Were the bags initially tied at the top of the substrate level (after inoculation/ spawining)? Is there a filter patch in the bag at all?
Great grow, I'd love to see more.

Nice! A little off topic did you know that Broccoli, Cauliflower, Romenesco, Cabbage, Brussel sprouts, Kale, Collards are all the same plant Brassica oleracea they are just different cultivars of the same plant.

Yeah, I found an interesting article by Stamets here. Had a nice chart laying out the benefits of different species.
Thanks for the link!

dont forget kholrabi, mycochef Its amazing wwhat a little breeding can do.
Olgualion: the bags were tied off immediately after spawning.
I mixed in the spawn, squeezed it down tight and forced all of the air out, then twisted the bag closed and tied it off. Then I poked about 20-30 (or less) holes around the bag and stuck them both into a rubbermaid to keep them tight and put on the lid. Thats pretty much where they stayed for about 2 weeks, then into the fc. pins were popping out about 3 days later, and a week and a few days after that I harvested.

I've seen their products before. I checked the link and did a search for their mush products but couldn't find any info beyond one single product. ??? Anybody care to help me out and give me a link to something that I can sink my teeth into?

The only mushroom product I've seen by them is the Immortal Mushroom capsules. I have a jar of those. I swear after I take a couple I feel more energized. Who knows?
...and nevermind. Scroll down to the "Activated Organic Mushrooms" section and you'll find some more there.

Thanks. I've seen bunches of these down the page at the local vitamin shop. Never tried any because I just don't normally have the money to be spending on supplements. But I sort of want to try the mycomend. I've got some inflammation issues that I'm always combating.
Here's something interesting. If you look at the data, they all have asterisks next to them that indicate that the mycelium is used, not the fruitbody.

Yeah, that seems to be the case most often, especially with Ganoderma lucidum. It's the least expensive and least time consuming way to go about it as the mycelium itself contains ample amounts of the substances they're looking for.
