Light Question
    #10596955 - 06/30/09 10:04 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

Do cakes need to be on a strict 12/12 light cycle? Or is that just preferable? Does providing a sporadic light cycle cause any harm to them? Lets say I let my fruiting chamber stay in indirect sunlight for 3 hours in the morning, then put it back into darkness for the rest of the day. Then at 1am shine a florescent light on it for several hours. Does that irregular light pattern cause problems with the fruiting? Because I know when weed is flowering it is because a certain light sensitive hormone that has built up due to seasonal light change. If you shine a light on a weed plant at night it fucks up the flowering cycle because the hormones are destroyed prematurely. I know mushrooms and weed use light for very different things but I'm wondering if there is some connection here.

I would just stick with 12/12 it has always been really really good to me..  No the irregular won't cause problems like it would in mary jane but if you give in nice daylight spectrum light for around 12/12 cycle you will get a better pinset..

when in doubt, mimic nature...the sun comes up, and goes down once in a 24hr period. And in all seriousness, thats what mushrooms have been exposed to for thousands if not millions of years.

Well I've seen mushrooms growing near a street light. Life forms adapt.

but why try to make them 'adapt' when you can give them what they want?
