Hello, There is only one company that offers vermiculite where I live and they have several types. What size do I need?

Bigger vermiculite chunks are great for an airy texture in bulk substrates.
You can put coarse vermiculite in your blender and turn it into fine vermiculite if you need fine for the verm. barrier in PF style jars.

for pf tek- fine or medium is best. not powder and not chunks of rocks either. so yeah... i guess medium. because if you need a smaller particle size you can sift the contents of the bag for a finer texture. i guess thats an option too?

Thank you for the answers. I have been growing mainly casings without spawning. Are PF Cakes better? Since I have a vendor I can make some and not use it only for the casing mix. I have seen some amazing results with cakes, but from what I have read casing is better. Any opinions?

Cakes seem easier to keep without infection, especially with fine verm for the barrier (PFTek style). Casing might be more productive. So the question is, what do YOU mean by "better"? In the end, if you've had success with casings and feel that you're getting the amount you'd like, great. If you've had problems with infections and that's the reason why you've become interested in good sized vermiculite for PFTek, then get yourself some good, stable and steady grows from cakes!! I would also recommend the finer vermiculite in dryer climate, but you should prob experiment with different ratios for moisture.

Here's the verm I use with a Corona bottle cap for scale. I don't know what grade this is, though. It worked great for my first grow, netting about 2oz dry from nine 1/2 pint cakes, and my next set of ten cakes is almost fully colonized. Also rolls & sticks fine to dunked cakes.
