how exactly do i go about rehydrating this monotub? *pics*

wow, these guys erupted overnight! harvested... went from this:

to this:

if you look closely, you can see a bunch of little pins scattered about the substrate. how do i go about rehydrating this without damaging all the pins? with my other tub i dunked it, (fully submerged) for a few hours, and put it back into the cleaned tote with a fresh garbage bag, but that one didn't have any visible pins.
could i "dunk" my substrate but let it float on top of the water instead of submerging it? or should i just mist profusely, or add water by some other means?
help, this is still technically my first grow, so i've never encountered this before!
oh, and will my poor little pins abort from having spores dumped all over them? i know it's possible... a few of them missed the worst of the dumping, i think they should survive... any thoughts? mostly i need to know how to dunk this thing! thank you!

Normally i just dump some clean water and a capful of peroxide into the monotub until the substrate block starts to float a little bit. Then I leave it like that for 12-24 hours and then just tilt it on it's side to drain it out while holding the substrate with a clean hand. Be sure to drain it well so there is no pooling.
I don't put a garbage bag on the inside though, so I don't know if that will prevent you from draining all the water out properly. If your cake has shrunk enough you might be able to just ditch the bag and not worry about blocking out the sides.
I find that when bulk subs get old enough that side pinners aren't really a problem because they aren't totally wedged up against the side of the terrarium and thus are easier to harvest. Sometimes you actually get really awesome bigguns from the sides like that because of all the humidity down there.

put some gallon jugs on the substrate and fill it up with water. Have a clean monotub ready to go and after the substrate has soaked for 4 hours cut it in half and remove 1/2 at a time to the new, clean rubbermaid.

Injecting distilled water into substrates.
Intuitively I would never try this, but I suppose if RR says it works...

The way I do it is, I get some doll rods from like walmart or home depot or some place and then just slide those through the holes.. I then take the tub into the bathroom set it in the bathtub and fill it with water.. The doll rods keep the substrate from floating, and then after you soak the substrate for 6-24 hours you can then just turn it upside down to drain the water and the doll rods will support the weight of the substrate and keep it from coming out..

Not a bad idea, but you mean "dowel" rods, right? I think I'd get laughed at, asking for "doll" rods at Home Depot or the like, even though most of the people that work there are complete dingleberries.

I have, how else are you going to get out a substrate that large and transfer it?

the substrate will float given water I use a similar method to the dowel rods but instead use plastic coat hangers to hold it in place in my bathtub I let water slowly trickle over the sub for about 4 hours then back to fruiting...If you have the right size tubs plastic coat hangers will fit nicely inside you're polyfill holes and keep it at that level while re-hydrating....works for me........e

all great ideas.. i used a large water jug to keep the substrate submerged in my last tub... but there were no pins on that one! isn't soaking pins in water going to damage them?? these aren't aborts, they're fresh pins! i'm confused...??
and no, not from a clone. they are from a GT multispore syringe.
thanks guys!

dowel rods or doll rods never the less they sound pretty much similar so I am pretty sure the idiots at walmart or home depot will not really pay much attention to your vernacular.

If you are care-full during re-hydrating the pins will be fine....I've had them actually gain size while soaking...crazy huh??? just be care-full not to disturb them and they will explode fast after the soak....I would suggest waiting for those pins to develop but if there isn't enough water in the sub. they will def. abort....e

I went to t@#$get and got a flavor injector syringe. It's a 30ml syringe that is meant to inject marinades into meats. It worked great for me. I filled it with distilled water, and injected about 15 times through out the whole tub. I then also recased it. With in 2 days it started flushing VERY large fruits.

Just pour water in there, the bulk substrate floats, weight it down, and you're soakin.
Check on it after several hours because bulk substrates can suck up a lot of water depending on the materials you used.
Rez Effect absorbs MUCH water. Straw trays can suck up a bunch too.
