@ OP *wikidfungus*

why are those PE caps dark blue? ive never seen that before. they dont look poisonous or anything but they look f**ng MEAN. are they super pote? they look awesome. SICK!
can you explain why they look like that?

and yeah growing is retarded easy. at least on the basic level.

attention to detail, follow the teks, dont skimp on tools and supplies, patience, dont try to reinvent the wheel, take your time, be methodical, etc, and you will get something good.

I guess you guys don't remember what it was like to be new, to be full of questions and needing support from those more experienced than yourself. I see some of the same people posting in almost every noob's thread, and they seem like they are only there to take a shit on the threads and rarely ever have anything positive to say.

Maybe some of you guys should reevaluate your motivations for being part of the Shroomery community. Seriously.

yeah its true i see alot of high and mighty around here. sometimes i even delete my posts because i think i might be attacked. you know, if i dont word something right.... or something.. or mabey im asking a stupid question.
i dont need that.

but yeah seriously. why be a dick about something thats supposed to bring joy and understanding?

i am a noob and i am TRYING to learn. but i also try to be respectful and not ask unnecessary questions. some kids get on here and want answers and immediate gratification, its tough for people who have paid the dues and worked hard, to just hand out info and do leg work for people who wont understand it anyways.

ive heard that the old world italian glassblowers would chop your hands off if you ever taught someone the craft who was out of the circle.

hmmm....

thumbprint anyone?

Right. It's one thing to ask an intelligent question on a topic that confuses you. Lay out the issues, maybe link to two or three different opinions. Even if it's a question that all the old hands can answer automatically, you've done your part. But when somebody comes on and asks "where can I buy coir?" then they get some derision.

Maybe we all could be nicer, I don't know. Seems ok to me.

Ill agree, there are some that get on there high horse and belittle others for questions that should just be answered. I always try to give the best answer and I like to think that it shows from my posts and my ratings. But some times the question is just so uninformed that it is a joke.

Try doing a search on "Will this work" and "Do you think this will work" I am amazed at the number of times that question has been asked by people who do not even understand the basics. Add to that the people who want to know how to grow bulk but do not even understand the terms that they would need to know to have it explained to them. chronosync, I commend you for reading and searching out the answers but some dont.

Normaly, when I see a question like the ones I have brought up I simple move on. No need to reply and cause a stink. It gives me more time to reply to the people who have read and asked a good question in my mind.

I'm just another inferior "noob", but one would think that a forum titled "MUSHROOM CULTIVATION" would be a place where one could go to get guidance on, you know -- growing mushrooms.

I've spent countless hours using the search engine. There's great, great stuff there. No doubt. But sometimes you still got questions that you'd like to pose that aren't exactly answered crystal clearly through the search feature. I'm on my first individual grow as we speak and after 3 weeks since I put together my casings -- it doesn't look good. I'll probably fail since my myc that has reached the substrate surface is turning a greenish-blue now. But I already pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I'm just going to have to keep going through the failures and then readjusting on the next grow until I reach a breakthrough because noob questions aren't really welcomed here.

What I don't understand is why the moderators here tolerate people belittling other users for asking simple questions, or for posting pictures of their first grow, or other similar things.

It is just how things go here.

Most people here in this forum are new, or they have a couple successful grows under their belt, and whatever worked for them (right or wrong) is what they're going to preach.

The few old timers that still use this forum have helped a LOT of noobs and tend to get bored answering the same questions over and over... especially when there is a FAQ and a Search feature.

Fact is, most n00bs ask for help, but they do very little in return for this community.

The quickest way to shake your n00b label is to participate, help out and show a willingness to learn from your mistakes.

We don't make it easy for newbs because we don't want this forum filled with people who lack the patience to research and learn this hobby. This hobby requires a great deal of personal responsibility... and posting sound advice in this forum requires a certain finesse with words.

One thing to remember is we were all noobs at one point right? I am a noob and have had a nice continuous experience growing with a lot of help from the shroomery. One thing I noticed though is that all my questions were asked already. Stick to the basics as a noob and follow the tek to the t don't try changing anything and a little COMMON SENSE goes a long way

THANK YOU CYBER

to the "noobs" who dont like getting flamed:

(i admit, and i am in the same boat, things can be confusing on this board, there are many conflicting opinions and SO many different ways to do stuff, and then people will tell you to follow *insert random tek* exactly....it can be overwhelming and mabey your not sure about what to do. then ask.)

HOWEVER.

there is a glossary here, use it. learn the correct terms, get some basic knowledge, do some homework, people will respect you more for it.

e.g. dont refer to bulk spawn runs that have no casing as "casings" etc...

Sorry, did I miss something in his post? the last time I remember someone making a pointless post poking fun at noobs for being noobs it was jeetered and he's been banned for a while.

I don't go out of my way to personally disrespect someone for no reason. I just tell it like it is. If you think my posts are disrespectful you have been taking them the wrong way for quite a while.

I was a noob here once as well. Now i'm not and I help the people I can without reprimanding them about a search engine. You find more of "UTFSE" than actual information when you actually USE the search engine.

I think the biggest problems are these:

1) Some vocab gets tossed around (casing, spawn, etc) and then people who don't know what they're talking about start using it incorrectly and then give others advice using incorrect language. It's a vicious noobtastic cycle.

2) People try to start learning the teks first without learning the basics of the mushroom life cycle and the needs of the fungus in the various stages. They spend way too much energy learning the specifics without understanding the general. Once you understand the general, you can easily modify teks to suit your needs.

3) This hobby is trying to take what can be a highly technical thing and turn it into something that can be understood by the lay person. Sometimes things get lost in the process. If a person isn't willing to learn some technical terminology and a little bit of biology/science. Plus, when people try to dumb down certain things they end up giving bad advice.

You were harsh enough with your last post to be at risk of banishment yourself.

And you were harsh to a person with 6 posts.

Sure, he may be a puppet, but you have no access to a puppet tracker. You flamed him on a hunch.

Helluva' way to treat a n00b.

You know what pisses me off? People who can't fucking cook. They call over here all the fucking time asking me how to do this or that, or they come right at dinner "accidentally" because they know I'll have some extra for them.

All you need to cook is a pot, a stove, and some food. Put the food in the pot, put the pot on the stove, cook it til its done.

Anyone who has any questions, like "how do I know when it's done?" or "what type of pot?" or "at what temperature do I set the stove (this one is particularly innovative-I didn't even have to tell them to turn on the stove!)" is obviously an idiot and not worth my time.

Same thing with the kids I used to teach piano to. For Christ's sake, you just hit the right key at the right moment!

Starting out is hard, man. Especially once you've sunk your money into something, and you have people telling you to relax on one side, and on the other, they're telling you to be super duper careful and not let a single particle of air make it's way in or you'll ruin everything and waste all your time and money.

Yes, the best way to learn is just to dive in with both feet and start doing it. I've been wanting to start bulk grows, but with the contam problems I get with just cakes, living in a sub-tropical area, I'm terrified.

It is WAY more difficult to find a step by step guide for bulk grows-one written from start to finish, with every step including the no-brainers, like the PF Tek is.

When you do, you realize you are talking about sinking hundreds of dollars more into this "hobby;" If you are not selling, you're not making that money back, and it gets expensive REALLY fast.

It's really cool that you have found an easy, simple way to do it with few problems. It would be VERY helpful to see your tek written out in an extensive, detailed way to help those with less experience. It would help spread the cultivation (and ultimately the use) of psilocybe mushrooms. Knowledgeable, experienced people like you are just what this mush cultivation needs to keep it alive and running!

this is great. the OP is bitching about noobs, but check out his join date. dude's just as much of a newb as the rest of us newbs.

IMHO unless your a mod or a tc/ti you should not be allowed to make a thread that's regarding what not to do.
