i got two questions on monotubs. is it possible to put a casing layer of verm(the only thing i have at the moment)at a level of an inch or more, maybe an inch and a half and still be successfull? also if my bottom holes are a little higher than my substrate and casing together, lets say about half an inch...do you think it'll stll do okay or is there any ideas on how to fix it?

That's too much casing. And you really shouldn't need to case in a monotub anyway. Can you add some more substrate?

Concentrate on humidity and you can omit the casing later for now.

What are you using for spawn? What is the size of your monotub?
Yes, you can use plain verm as a casing layer, but CERTAINLY not an inch high. Ideally you should be able to flush without a casing layer at all, as stated earlier.
To your second question, I have always had my holes in my monotub vary, as long as my RH was maintained and flushes were flushed I was happy. But, to directly answer it, I think it's okay. Just get an RH meter to keep an eye on things and let us know.

i'm using rye spawned to coffee/coir/gypsum/verm in 10 gallon tub with 8 1.25" holes in it. im trying to get the most out of this monotub so i was thinking that any casing would help even tho its just plain verm. maybe i could mix some coir in the verm at ratio of 20/80 just b/c i hate straight verm casings. i think im going to go with a 3/4 inch layer of casing unless anybody has any tips?
