Does this tub look right? *FINAL UPDATE - lots of MYCOPORN - 06/30/09*
    #10562189 - 06/23/09 11:11 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

*UPDATES in replies*

it looks really different compared to the other tub i've got going, which is fruiting nicely. (both prepared the same way.)

it looks even weirder right after misting:

there are however, three little pins, two of which you can see here:

i'm wondering if the substrate is too dry, since pins are only forming on the edges? on the other hand, they are also only forming directly below the polyfil, so maybe i need more FAE?

could this even be the beginnings of trych?? help i'm really paranoid about my babies!

the above tub is GT(ms)-->WBS-->Coir/Coffee, uncased. fruited on June 17 '09.

this is the other tub, fruited on June 12 '09:

thanks

hmmm uncased ? i at least put verm on top. but myc can get pretty fuzzy at times i also had pins on outside first once it found it was bc when i misted the most moisture was on edges were water dripped to . you will no if it is trich  bc it looks like whipped cream its not real fluffy lookin when it starts. you will have to wait it out as if it is trich norm it will show about a day or two after right behind white stuff . thats why i case top cause you can deff tell if some random white crap starts comming from side lol otherwise it all looks white.

DO NOT do a thing to this, after your first flush, re-case and fruit it again.

If you add anything to those pins, 80% of them will abort and you will loose a healthy crop.

I would reduce your spraying to half.

Other than that, to keep your casing layer from colonizing like this, next time, start fanning once you have laid your casing down.

Ya, i would just case the problem tub for the second flush. You might end up getting some extraordinary mushrooms from this. I'm defiantly gonna keep track of this thread.

How long did you let the coir incubate?

i let this tub incubate for about 10 days. the ratio was about 1:4. i let it consolidate longer than my other fruiting tub. it was already forming knots when i put it into fruiting conditions, so logically, i was expecting pins to form sooner than this. but i'm still very new to all this, so what do i know!

assuming i do get a first flush, i'll give casing a try for the second. i'll update when something interesting happens!

thanks alot!

bollocks, you get great results no casing layer, second fluSh + dunked

you dont need to case a properly prepared monotub.

there should be enough moisture in your sub  to easily bolt one flush.

then dunk for 4 hours inbetween flushes.

works like a charm.

*UPDATE!*

Well you guys were right, i left it alone and it did its thing beautifully! i got a better pinset than on my first tub, and it even produced my first mutant! kinda looks like a heart, or a woman's rear... i haven't decided yet. either one is stunningly appropriate, since i love mushrooms, and i love woman's rears!

thanks for all your help!

Great work, alot of people worry to much about there tubs and start questioning things, usually humidity.

Monotubs have been used for quite a while and are known to work when your substrates moisture content is right. and if you mixed your bulk sub to feild capacity it will.

I have a mini mono sitting doing its thing at the moment, theres no pinning yet, but i know its not drying out. Its still nice and pretty white and knottin up nicely.

If your getting knotting on the surface that should be a good indication your tubs holding enough humidity. If it wasnt it wouldnt pin and dry out.

thanks guys!

i also have a mini monotub going. about 6" long by 4" wide, and 6" deep. just felt like experimenting.

i fruited it at the same time as the tub above. i just noticed two little pins along the side of the mini-tub today, but there is quite a bit of blue bruising on the rest of the mycelium, (away from the sides of the tub.) could this be due to the substrate drying out? (this is also a different strain.)

Final UPDATE!

harvested today... these guys exploded overnight. spores galore! printing time

i really underestimated how messy spores can be til i saw them myself.. it's like ink! very cool. makes me very happy to know how easily they travel and stick to things, and that potentially, hypothetically, if we all work together to spread the spore mass, mushrooms could one day take over the world !

here's the entire harvest, plus individual shots of my favorite mushrooms. there were bigger ones, but these had more character. :smirk:

this is what my poor tub looked like after harvesting:

i decided to "dunk" this tub, but i let it float in the water, rather than submerging it, because i didn't want to damage the second wave of pins you can see popping up throughout the substrate... i hope the torrential downpour of spores didn't/doesn't harm them too much!

thank you shroomery, here's to a second flush! :mushroom2:

edit: yes this is double posted in Mushroom Grow Logs/Pictures, if this is against the rules, mods let me know!

lol, yeah i am female, hear me roar! there are way too few of us here... represent!

managed to get four big prints from these guys. hopefully my sterile technique was up to par... i don't really understand how a spore print is supposed to be completely sterile though... we'll see.

thanks for the comments, i do hope i get a second flush!
