Question about strerility.

Well first off this is my first grow (and first thread although i am a long time reader). I'm using the brf tek plus i bought a lot of it in surplus for future use. I just ordered some spores for cultivation. Everything seems to be going well so far, i just sterilized 12 jars, one jar did crack..
I knew i was going to store the jars for about 5 days before i could inoculate so i didnt put the 4 holes in them. My spore should be coming in tomorrow so im concerened if i should steralize the drill but ill be using or if i should just re steam/pressuere cook them after i poke holes?

since you already sterilized them and your following the pf tek, which I assume includes the dry verm layer on top. I would say that if cleaned the lids with an alcohol swab then burned a nail and used that to puncture the lid (being careful not to penetrate far) you should be able to inoculate the jars without much problem.
Although if it is completely sealed... like canned, when you puncture there may be a vacuum effect

If this happenes again drill the holes. Just be sure to leave the foil on the jars after sterilizing. I use to do it when i first started to make sure my jars were good to go. Never had a problem.

Did you have the jars suspended out of the water. Did you let them cool on there own with out assistance?

Yeah i tried to suspend them but i think i put too much water in one and one of the jars got slightly submerged. Ill def be more careful next time gonna try to suspend them higher. I just used like tons of aluminum foil, about 3 or 4 inches of it, height wise. And yes they cooled down without any assistance.

Reason i ask is,I use a PC and have only had 1 jar break on me. I did it on purpose to see what would happen. What i did was took a hot jar out of the PC and doused it in cold water, Yep same thing that happens to a light bulb Is what i said lol.

um, you need to have the holes during sterilisation.
I think this is the 3rd or 4th time ive said it, why the hurry? whats to be gained by rushing and getting your jars ready as quick as possible?
Im pretty sure that if you sterilise a jar sealed, it can dampen the dry verm layer. A wet filter is no good.

The verm still looks very dry, i thought it was the heat that killed all the germs so it wouldn't matter if it had holes or not, amirite?
Edit: And i wasn't trying to rush, just figured id get a head start.

Great, but that's not in the tek. Do it like the tek.

If you follow the pf tek to the T everything will come out beautifully. Because it is your first grow try not to vary in the slightest way.
