I haven't read through the whole thread but this is what 99% of DJ's use these days

Sennheiser HD25

I can't recommend them highly enough.  Also all the parts are replaceable and they have low enough impedance and weight that they make great portable headphones as well as for the studio

I'll give those a look too Sam, thanks. Are they lightweight and comfy to wear for extended periods? (8-9hrs or so at work) How faithful are they in reproducing the full range of audio? I want detailed highs, solid lows and nice warm mids. I want it to make my brain go *twitch* when shpongle or radiohead or something awesome comes on.

The audio quality is amazing and doesn't lose anything at a higher volume.  It's the best I've ever heard in a headphone but I do have limited experience.  From what I understand they are a standard against which other headphones are measured.

They are very lightweight and adjustable, however because they aren't circumaural (they don't sit around your ear, they sit on top of it) they might not be comfortable for really extended sessions, because they press inwards.

I haven't read through the thread either, I was about to post the exact same response too .

These are without a doubt the best headphones I have ever owned and the best I have ever heard.

Okay, so it's been awhile since this thread was created. But there was no need to create a new one! Right now my two headphone choices are:

Denon AHD 1000
Bose Over-Ear Headphones

I've listened to the Bose headphones before at Best Buy, and they do sound really great. Everything I read about the Denon's is absolutely positive though. Anyone actually listened to 'em? I'm starting a new position at my company, I'll be working 3rd shift pretty much by myself and want to be able to just shut off the outside world and totally get into my music while I work.

I have no doubt at least 10 people will come out of the woodwork and say sennheiser is the way to go. I already have a pair of open air sennheisers that are super comfy and nice, but I need a pair of cans and I'd like to try a different brand. My price range is $75-150 or so, depending.

Suggestions? Comments? Opinions? Anecdotes?

I almost bought the Denon 1000's after comparing tons of headphones... I was driving the salesman at Guitar Center nuts - Had him opening box after box after box all the way up the most expensive Sennheisers (I think they were like $860)... Then I heard these: Stanton DJ Pro 3000 and I was SOLD!! Best sounding cans on the market! BAR NONE!

I now own 3 pairs of 'em!  Everyone who's heard 'em is floored! They totally rock.

What sort of device do you power them with? That is, will my ipod be able to push them sufficiently to be worthwhile? I would consider purchasing a small headphone amp if the cans are really that good, especially for that price.

These have served me real well for years.

As a general rule id say any (well-reviewed, established brand) pair for ~$100 will do you well.

I guess the same goes for earbuds, but i cant ever get myself to spend big on then due to how fragile and small they are.

These are the headphones I have right now. With the noise canceling on, they have pretty decent sound quality, nice and loud with good bass. But I think they create a lot of distortion.

Skullcandy used to have dope headphones, I don't think they make em quite like they used to. I can't wait to try out some of these headphones you all are talking about!

An iPod will push 'em, but not to a really loud level. I use a home theater receiver to drive 1-3 pairs and they really show their stuff when you push 'em hard.

I like my music loud and clean and accurate with deep potent bass... If you do too, add an amp.

These cans handle 3 watts EASILY and still beg for more.  Your amp will clip long before the Stantons distort. I can't praise them highly enough.

Also, you can find them on Amazon.com for $89.99

Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro. They are so damn flat and accurate. If you're looking for something that is going to hype the sound up though they are not really the way to go. For absoloute truthfulness you want some beyers.

Always go with industry products IMO, i don't like  sennheisers.

I haven't really read through this thread but Sennheisers are usually the best bang for your buck.

Everyone's entitled to his own opinion...

I listened to at least four Beyer models including the 770's and was totally unimpressed, although they do sound better than any Sennheisers, they don't hold a candle to the Stantons.

I know it pretty hard to believe that a relatively inexpensive pair of "DJ" cans could blow away the expensive audiophile headphones, but trust this audiophile, they are AMAZING!

You need to hear them to believe.

I have the Grado SR-80s and I love them.
They are open though, so they will leak noise.
Not good if you do your listening on buses or in libraries.
