Colonization and light?

I've read time and time again that light is not necessary during colonization. However, I've noticed that the mycelium grows much quicker during the day than it does at night. I have my jars in an environment that keeps a consistent temperature of 80ºF ±1ºF. Can anyone give some insight as to why it might be growing noticeably faster during the day than at night?

Whether they do actually grow faster in light or not I have no idea. I would think it probably doesn't make much of a difference (thats me though). I believe the main reason people recommend keeping the jars in the dark is to avoid invitro pinning, though I imagine that would be more of a problem if you let fully colonized jars sit around in the light for a long time.
In any case I think theres enough growers on here who have great success and just leave their jars on shelves around the house.
edit: i realize now this doesn't give much of an answer to your question :S sry was just giving my insight

Haha I guess the only reasonable scientific answer is cosmic forces then.

Light won't cause faster growing. Why they gro in the day faster is a somewhat trivial question. Are you sure the temps are constant even at night. It would explain it if it was colder at night and the warmth of the day cause faster growth. It could also be that yes, mushrooms do use light as a guide of where to grow, so during the day in light they colonize the outside of th jar more where exposed to light, and at night in darkness, they grow more throughout the middle of the substrate as they have no predispostion where to grow. maybe.
It's also entirely possible that you simply just have the perception of more growth during the day. Your eyes may be seeing what you want to see, as you are not awake at night to see it.
I keep my jars and bags in a closet and they most certainly seem to grow faster at night.
They aregrowing though, worry not why at this point. just feel blessed.

Hmm.. well I've set up a quick experiment.. I mark the growth by outlining the myc in 12 hour intervals on the jar (sun up to sun down, sun down to sun up). I'm only doing it with one jar so it is by no way scientifically accurate, but it was just a trend I noticed as I was wondering if light affected colonization growth (the reason why I started marking the jars in the first place). I was just wondering if there was any info supporting or rejecting this data.. I guess I'll have to look deeper into this.
And yeah, I am blessed to have the white fuz, haha I am just a curious person.

I myself have noted faster growth during the dark cycle for what it's worth. There are theories as to lights affect during substrate colonization while darkness isn't necessary there are benefits during pinsetting as far as patching is concerned and initial growth. As far as light hastening linear growth I haven't seen it maybe someone has more than one link confirming it?
