2 litre soda bottle fruiting chamber
    #10580641 - 06/27/09 06:55 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

This is burma in a 2 litre soda bottle.

I havnt seen many posts about these and they do work OK for just a few cakes. Thres not much space to fruit though and find mushrooms end up growing aganst the walls and get to the top and run out of space.

Im not using perlite either as i dont have any, using vermiculite in the bottom. Its such a small space that moisture evaporating from the cake will be helping toward humidity. Im going to get some of my mate for the next flush to see the difference. But its definatly holding humidity, ive got pinning on the top of a cake in another 1. No roll in vermiculite.

These cakes wernt dunked either as they were had quite large fruits already growing.

That's pretty neat. Seems like 2-3 liter bottles would be a nice alternative for those with small grows and a limited budget.

Yeah I've seen variations on it. All in containers big eough for the cake with a few inches around and perlite on the bottom. My mate for some reason is using my dub tub as a perlite fc? Lol

I messed up the lid on this. If you cut the top off right you can slide it down the bottle and it seales it enough to keep rh high and you just remove the bottle cap and pump for air exchange.

I'm going to add some holes to it for better air exchange also making another 2 for 2 cakes that are pinnning in te jar.

Just about every cake has pinned in 2-4 days after full colinisation. Guess that's the disadvantage of foil lids for drinking glasses.

I like to use gallon water jugs. Seems to give more width but less height.

i had one cake that got contamed (well i thought it was, turns out it was bruising) so i isolated it in a soda bottle fc. i used a three liter bottle from supermarket brand generic cola, i don't think the big name soda companys make three liter. it worked out great.

Years ago, I was using a tupperware with very similar dimensions to a 2-liter bottle. I had it inverted so the cakes (two cakes that were touching each other due to limited space)  were resting on the lid of the tupperware so that I could access the cakes easily to mist and harvest. It actually worked very well.

Note, this is a tall half-pint jar, not a pint. The cake that was in it did alright (it was isolated because it looked like it was contaminated), but most of the cakes in the FC produced bigger fruits. Much easier to open and close and fan than a 2 liter, and if you wanted to, you could just use Saran wrap over the top and have a light over it.

Hey I really like that.

Before I saw your post I was going to mention I have used a CD spindle similar to the one in that tek, except the smaller kind. I put small holes around it and didn't even use perlite and it was enough room for one cake. The shrooms grew goofy but I got many harvests this way.

I never could get the 2-litre bottles to produce anything worth while, just didn't work for me.

Thats pretty sweet.
My latest project along these lines was a dub-tub using two 4L Ice Cream buckets.

Couldn't find a bag small enough to have it on the inside so I taped it to the outside.

The cakes were pinning in the jar. Though 1 of the cakes has produced new pins since being in the bottles and there's no cap scalig so I'm sure that's a good sign rh is ateast in the 90%. I have feen fanning them out well and misting but more fae than misting

1 of the bottles is almost ready to harvest, 2 mushrooms have caps flattening out. Weird thing is, its the most recent cake, the first 1 was done several days earlier and has just started pinning with a few more mature mushrooms. Oh they joys of multispore.

Im going fishing either monday or tuesday at a quiet loch, im thinking of taking some tea with me for later on when most people are gone and its a little darker :-) would be awesome catching a fish while tripping

Man, Veda, I've done some little grows alongside projects for fun, but your ghetto-fab professionally.  I've got to give you props for that.  I know that little slurpee cup teks can work, but you're the first guy that can direct the occasional third-world cultivator that pops in to utilize wet paper towels inside sewed together plastic fragments to form a terrarium.

Your budget must be like 2quid/6pence. Respek. ~Pixie~

Yup, i cant afford to buy food, cant afford council tax, electricity, barely afford bus fare.

I just harvested 1 cake from that bottle, 23 grams, my scale is only accurate to 1 gram so it could be 23.something or 23.something close enough.

I have another 3 of those fruiting doing pretty well. and also 2 tubs 1 which has fiinialy started pinning and another which is looking very nice and should sprout pins any day now, it just keeps getting bumpier by the day.

As ghetto as it is, its looking like ive gotten more shrooms than when i first started and i was using a perlite fruiting chamber (not shotgun though at the time).

So, looks like ill be good for t in the park.

Im thinking of making some tea to take fishing tomorrow. My mates went fishing today and actually had a great time caught some fish aswell, so its barbaqued fish at the loch and catch more fish now we know what flies to use. Once it gets later in the evening and everyone else buggers off home, some tea and some evening fishing while tripping.

Quite a lot of my growing has been in 2 liter Coke bottles, with a little perlite at the bottom. Yields aren't as good as a proper FC but it's worth it in certain circumstances (not wanting renter to know about it) because you can stick them anywhere. Only thing is, it's real easy to disturb them enough to make your cakes fall over, or maybe I'm just clumsy. I topped them with saran wrap, but I had to be on my toes because tall shrooms would push the wrap right off.

Please be careful of the hooks while fishing tripping - I would not trust myself to do that.

Yeah i wasnt planning on using them, but my cakes started pinning in the jars and got to the stage they had to be birthed. I have 1 with cling film and that happened got home to a mushroom pushing the fiml off, ive made the other ones taller. but instead of cling film ive slid the bit i cut of inside which i pump when i need airxchange.

Im sure you could get a really good yeild with good light exposure and plenty of FAE. Im going to try adding a few holes with polyfill for the next flush.

Though to be honest, that 1 cake is more than enough for me just now. I have another 3 cakes fruiting, plus more that need to be either birthed or crumbled plus 3 small tubs. Doesnt sound much but thats alot of mushrooms for someone that only needs between 10 grams fresh and 20 grams for a pretty strong dose and that doesnt intend on dosing much.

I kind of prefer this method to crumbling, though that could change when they start fruiting.
