I've read that it occurs when it is too humid, but I've only noticed it on my grows when it isn't humid neough. When I turn up the humidity it stops happening anyway. I guess it depends on cakes or casing. Casings require 95+% RH during the primordia formation and pinning stage, and app 90 during the fruiting stage, cakes require 95+ throughout the lifecycle.

I thought that mycelia growth such as this is likely the result of the humidity being too low - true? I've got the same thing going on with my cakes rigt now, and I can't get the hunidity to stay over 85% at best. Do you think this will hinder the flushes?

That's what i was sayin. That I've only had this happen when the humidity is too low. Optimally you want oto getthe humidity up, but I don't think it will hinder your flush too much.

The fuzz at the base is okey dokey . If "mycelium" is crawling up the mushie and nearing the cap is sign of to high humidity . Mycelium looks different than that fuzz , does it not ? Almost like hair ? Than my answer stands , not to high humidity , just normal growth . Those smaller ones may be abhorts , that is what makes them appear to be "swallowed" up by the fuzz .
Good Luck

Trip and Teraz (whatever that guy up theres name is) was correct, its a sign of too high humidity. Casings don't need that much humidity. Try getting it down into the mid 80s.

Recent weather change has caused the same with some of my experiments. Keep an eye on the tops of the smaller ones - some one mine abort, but others are growing well, regardless of the batch of hairy white growth around the base. Keep spores from the taller ones from falling on the little ones - pull early if you can. As long as they look healthy and keep growing, don't worry. Lots of us have less than optimum conditions, but still manage to grow some pretty babies.
