Ive used search engines everywhere, and I keep getting brought back to shroomery.org just to see another post (asking) about them.
I need a Monotub guide if anyone has a direct link.

It was originally intended as a filter to keep out contamination.
It's really not needed since fully colonized substrate is quite resistant to contamination, but it does help to hold in humidity while allowing for air exchange.

Coir, straw, worm castings, etc. Any bulk substrate will do well in a monotub.
A mixture of bulk substrates is your best bet.

Im testing a small setup without polyfill holes. 1 tub has 1/4 inch holes at substrate level and another has slits that i melted with a knife.
Recoverd in 2 days nice and white, no bruising or signs of drying out and looks to be knotting.
