fanning , once again ............
    #1057865 - 11/16/02 11:46 AM (14 years, 11 months ago)

as I have stated in a previous post , I have an elite 801 aquarium pump.....i put this pump into a small (but tall) tray .. I took apart an air conditioner filter (you know the square looking ones) and proceeded to wrap the tray in this air filter . the hose coming out of the pump runs into the terrarium , and into a large jar of water (so the air gets filtered twice so to speak) . I have been flipping this contraption on for about 10mins twice a day to allow air exchange. I have also melted two holes near the bottom of my  plastic terrarium by heating up a screwdriver with a blow torch and then pushing the hot screwdriver right thru the plastic (like it was butta  ) . I then glued two small pieces of rubber over the 2 holes , in such a way that they kinda look like rubber flaps. I then took some more air filter stuff and taped it around the rubber flap . So my theory is , when i flip the switch , all the CO2 will be forced out of the holes , and the rubber flap maintains humidiity . All this happens while fresh air is pumped in by the pump .

1) Do you think I still have to open the terrarium and manually fan ?

2) Can I leave this pump on continuously , or should it be cycled ?

I'd still manually fan at least once a day. You should definately put it on a timer.
