case problem
    #1057319 - 11/16/02 02:50 AM (16 years, 30 days ago)

Well here goes. I can?t seem to get my cases to pin. I?m using straw for the substrate and a peatmoss / vermeculite casing layer. As for the terrarium I am using a cooler with a cool mist humidifier and a grow light running 8 on and 16 off. Also I am using a fish tank heater in a large mason jar as a heat source locking the temps in at 75 degrees. I preformed a cold shock prier to placing the cases into the terrarium when the mycelium was just visible in the valleys of the casing layer. Now the problem i am having is that they just won?t pin. They have been in the terrariums now for about two weeks and are starting to show signs of overlay. The only glimmer of hope that one of the cases pushed one single pin up about three days ago, but the little guy has shown no other signs of growth. I could really use some help here.

What was the moisture content of casing when you applied it?

I saturated 80 percent then added the 20 percent that was dry back into it. It was damp but not dripping.
