Ummm... Help?
    #10570981 - 06/25/09 01:43 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

So, I was out of town from Sunday to last night.  When I went to check on my cakes in the FC, 2 of them were covered with trich... How should I protect the rest of my cakes from contaminating?

The trich had already sporulated, I know how to clean out the FC, just not what to do with the cakes (mist w/diluted H2O2, or with really diluted bleach water, etc)?

This is my third attempt at growing shrooms and I really thought, felt, that I was going to be successful this time... Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

H2O2 wont do anything to trich.
Personally...I would chuck it all carefully as possible.
Those spores get everywhere.

Best bet if you keep them would be to try to rinse the spores off. Fully colonized cakes are pretty tough.

how much fresh air does your FC get? don't treat the problem when you can just as easily prevent it.

My FC normally gets fanned out 6+ times a day... However, as stated, I was out of town for several days (no sitter for my babies lol).  I use a shotgun FC, had two windows open and a fan on in the room... obviously wasn't enough though.

My FC used to sit just below and to the side of one of the windows, but I decided to move it so that my veggies could get more natural light.

I rinsed, and dunked the cakes before placing back in the FC (which I cleaned with a dilute bleach solution).
