no calcium carb. or gypsum in caseing mix?

i can't find calcium carbonate or gypsum anywhere locally. Can I case popcorn kernals without them in my caseing mix? I really don't want to have to order any online.

yes you can, it just aids with the ph. i recommend a 50 50 mix of peat and verm.

You dont need to add anything beyond that. I run 50/50 coir/verm with no other additives and it works great.

Petsmart has calcium carbonate and just smash up some drywall for gypsum. Works for me

Mango Man, do you have the ability to test the PH of the mix? if not why are you wanting to add stuff to adjust the PH?
The average PH of vermaculite is 7.5 The average PH of Coco Coir is 6.5
At best a 50/50 mix will be a little on the acid side which is good because the mushrooms prefer it a little acidic (Gratz Annali Museo Civico di Rovereto, vol. 10, pp. 297-306, 1995)
