Tyvek instead of wax paper?

Anyone tried Tyvek instead of wax paper? For placing on to of a bulk sub while initiating pinning. Just a random though, but it seems usable, y'know?

for one, tyvek isn't transparent. The amount of light penetrating through to the surface would be greatly reduced.
It would be nice though.. if it worked it would help me justify buying a roll of black tyvek, I've been eying

Wax paper serves the purupose of creating the proper HUMIDITY to the grow. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH lighting.

Are we talking about the use of tyvek vs. wax paper for the lid of your FC?
From a quick google it seems Tyvek only allows about 4-8% of light to transmit through it. http://phy.duke.edu/~schol/superk/trans.pdf

Light is really only a secondary pinning trigger...
Wax paper would win this one in my opinion. It's texture is easy to crumble and create tons of small crevices which make for a better surface environment for your colonized sub.

IMO bulk subs need neither to form great pinsets.
The art of misting is enough.

Tyvek allows water vapor to pass through. It's originally designed to allow a home to "breathe", regulating humidity. You'll notice a home without Tyvek or a comparable product is likely to have excess humidity, causing condensation to form on windows when the sun shines on them.
IMO, it will work, but if you want to retain humidity, the wax paper will perform better.

Well, both really. That's the catch. You need to let water from the top layer of the substrate, without drying it out. That evaporation is a pinning trigger. Seems like Tyvek might allow a slow gradual release, allowing time for moisture to draw up from inside the block.
I had just put a tub into the greenhouse yesterday, so I went ahead and cut a piece of Tyvek to fit my minitub. I'll report back in a couple of days. It's obviously not a 'scientific investigation', just a first try.

After really thinking about it, it would probably allow for humidity retention WITH a very slow, small amount of evaporation, so I'd love to see how this turns out.

Well, I've never used either. And I don't have wax paper anyway.
