I went in the dead of winter and it was stunningly beautiful nonetheless.

It's pretty epic. Be sure to drive past the weeping wall (not that you have a choice).

The weeping wall was frozen when I went.

I don't think that most people do. I saw a grizzly, but it was off of the road and it was pretty far away.

Bring some bacon in your pack. You'll see one for sure.

the scenery will be great but most of the vegetation will be dried up. it will also be pretty hot and most of the wildlife will be at higher elevations. i was just there last weekend and the alpine meadows were an explosion of colors. go in august, but make plans to come back in late june/early july next year. are you planning on getting into the backcountry, or just hitting some of the main places? PM me if you want recommendations for either.

as for bears, i saw some fresh scat but no animals. carry bear spray with you just in case, but common sense is the best protection. there is a lot of literature on how to minimize your chances at an encounter, its always good to know that stuff. but really, sometimes shit happens, so carry bear spray. (not the bells though, they are fucking annoying)

I remember it being pretty mild when I was there in the end of July. Maybe I'm misremembering?

nah, maybe not. it can be mild any time. you just won't see a lot of the wildflowers towards the end of the summer

hike the trail at the top of the going to the sun highway

mountain goats there all the time - you'll see them right up close

bears are a rarity but definitely possible - be careful cuz MT bears will fuckin eat you

nothing to worry about

just be careful and take your bear spray

if you get lucky enough to see bears, keep your distance

if you have a couple hundered to spare you can get heli rides over the glacier - really a very cool way to see it

the heli place is south of the main entrance a few miles
